Yeah, if I do recon the VCU it's definitely the drill and drain method. I'm in no way confident I could stick weld it back together. I hadn't considered having a shop do the fitting of bearings. That was my main concern as I don't have a press...

I suppose the only way I’ll find out is to start stripping again - just when I thought it was all going smoothly! Might start with the upper manifold and see if I can feel behind the engine to get an idea.

Think I'd rather rebuild an IRD than a VCU. You know where you are with gears and bearings. I'd get a rebuild (bearing) kit, remove it, give 'em to a shop to pull and push the bearings then refit it. As for rebuilding a VCU, cutting it open...

I haven't clicked on this cos I know the answer but I only discovered it a little while ago. Might have made a bit more sense if they were centred on Brum though!

No experience of any companies as such as my 90 will benefit from the same at some point. I know one of my local independents does chassis changes using Richards chassis amongst other mechanical work. Worth asking your Indy for a quote, although...

Funnily I tend to just stumble across it. There's only about 200 bots left at the moment so the party might be a short one. The nasty neighbours don't seem to drink wine, but the other two lots do!

No. The hoses are made with a cloth/fabric core and are therfore like a sandwich, rubber, cloth, rubber. What can happen is that the internal layer of rubber separates from the cloth (delaminates) and expands to fill the inside of the pipe when...

I sympathise, it's the rare occasion when someone else arises earlier than oneself and girds the mantle of Cat Puke/Pee/Pooh clearance operative and you bask in the warm bliss of an empty bed while one of the cats settles on your chest and purrs...

Had to get up early as I had to go to the yard & turn a frame over for a dive bell system as its getting sand blasted. I'll have my coffee then im away out to mess about in the shed for an hour. Then get ready to leave around 12.30 for a wee...

Unlikely to be the upper manifold. Either the valley is not quite sealed at the back, or could be the rear head core plugs ? There's also a couple of core plugs on the rear of the block, behind the flywheel.

Your guide to reconditioning actually gave me hope that I could DIY it. I'm still getting in touch with Sue, as I suspect the IRD is also on the way out. Rebuilding the IRD will be too much of a challenge, yet. I'm planning on checking the IRDs...

count the threads left out from the locknut on the wastegate rod, if there are less than 12 adjust it to 12 and see then with F2 removed but if it's a noticeabe difference with fuse removed than with it in place replace the wastegate modulator...

    Is it manual or auto?

So I did the "Sierrafery test" by removing fuse number 2. It is indeed much better but there are still micro cuts when I accelerate with my foot to the floor towards the speed of 100 km/h.

Do you not drill out the spot welds and rivet the new one in place using the same holes? Or cut it off from the back and bond it in place, would look neater.
