Check for air intake pipes that may have come loose during the engine being tilted to accommodate the gbox work. 🤔 Any problems before the replacement box?

Hi! After replacing the gearbox and differential, the car lacks power and produces a lot of soot. Gear shifting is smooth, so there are no issues with that. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? What could be the cause—could it be unrelated...

Reviving this old thread, but I have searched and obviously there are VIN databases. When a V8 is changed from one Rover to another, it is unlikely to be the same year (engine and chassis numbers), so is there a engine database? So I can check...

So what do we fink happened. Excess revs blow'd one of the air pipes oft and the hot gas set it on fire? Turbo pipe split? Result fuel lines caught fire.

Would be interesting to know! Africa is great, but spares are the real issue here. Toyota spares are readily available, especially for a 70 series landcruiser. Disco 1&2, RR and original defender too, however even rover guys here will admit...

This is what I found after a search - I first qualified as an MOT tester in 1985, and the diesel smoke test was introduced some time after that. I always felt that the test was flawed, and that it was totally unnecessary to rev the engine right...

If you read the link you will see what they should be doing. "Prolonged period" is rubbish, but they do need to rev it up to the rev limiter for a short while. This is why they check with you that your cam belt has been changed according to...
