Zeus rear disc brake conversion

Hi Cornish Rattler - am really tempted by the Zeus kit as fed up of drum aftermarket parts that don’t fit. Can you answer some questions for me:

1. Honestly, what is the stopping power like relative to good drums? Noticeably better?

2. I have a stock 88 setup with single cylinder 10” front and back. It’s on a dual circuit servo (for safety only). Can you have discs on front and keep drums on back. Can’t afford both.

3. I’ll also get aftermarket wolf style rims to fit. Are the studs supplied with the kit longe enough to compensate for the disc brakes and the t extra metal of the wolfs? I know wolfs technically needed longer studs before you factor in the extra metal of the disc brakes.

Ps. I notice LOF clutches are now making series drum kits to “address issue of terrible aftermarket parts”. That the option if I don’t do Zeus.

Hi mate
1, 10 times better to the point where I didn't thing the back brakes were doing anything.
2, same as mine was but mine doesn't have a servo yet and yes you can just have disc's up front and drums on the back.
3, yes they do come with longer studs but if your wheel nuts are the 27mm ones there are 2 types of stud one is a press in stud and the other is a screw in stud

One thing you will notice is the discs act as a wheel spacer and gives you a slightly better turning circle :D
 
Awesome - am really tempted now. One final question - did you have to change your master cylinder? I have a dual line setup with a servo. Brand new. I heard some rumours about retained cylinder pressure for drums meaning you needed to changes our master cylinder for a master from a defender that originally has a disc/drum setup. Might be nonsense. Let me know what you’ve got. Sounds awesome!

Yeah I have been told this but I haven't done this yet as I just want to get the rear disc's on and see how they are but I probably would need a bigger master cylinder as well as a servo but not to sure which to get.
 
But the fronts are working fine at the moment right with the standard master cylinder?? You don’t have any issues at present? Part of me thinks if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it....

FYI LOF Clutches are now making drums brake kits. Might use those on the back and ZEUS on the front.

Yeah as regards the front brakes everything is great :D
 
As i was bored and on my day off i decided to strip the rear brakes off down to the axle flanges ready for when the new kit comes, will post pic's later :)

Great to see this commitment to a IIA :) having passed me test in one :eek:, I have a soft spot for them.... Thought I do remember them having substandard brakes, which can only be worse in modern traffic, and all the "yummy mummy's" feeling invincible in the their ejokes* :rolleyes:

Can't wait to see the results :)

( * = other sh*t box tronic carp is available :D )
