I bought a new Zenith a couple years back and only put about 40 hours on it since. Well all of the sudden one hot tropical day, black smoke, poor to no idle, no power, poor acceleration, dieseling. I had my brother in law - a mechanic look at it he was puzzled. I had enough today and took it off and followed instructions from various sources on-line. I decided to plug the port to 'no-where' as well as lapp the halves. My post is for the guy who is not a mechanic (who knows all this allready) but for the rest.
To do this its a good idea you should have a replacement gasket kit.
Picture A - You see my emulsion block, with the fine grit paper on a sheet of glass. My setup more or less.
Picture B - The most warped piece the Emulsion block (the piece that is sandwiched in between the 2 half's. It took quite a lot to get it flat all around. I did lapp the other halves a little.
Picture C - The extra port that some say to plug with a O ring. Of course I cut off the excess hanging out. I used or old oil cartridge gasket.
Picture D - Adjusting the float level. You can either bend the tab or add/remove washers to the needle valve. The float hieghts or on the picture.
Clean everything with petrol or something before putting back. Theres a lot of metal shavings in the ports, etc.
After completing this job my Zenith now works again. I hope this helps others and please add critique my post.
