Hello I have to questions one technical the other opinion

Tech one.
My sun roof when it opens its ok gets to open position and its stops.
When closing gets to the end and we ear clunk clunk clunk like missing a gear...any ideas how to fix it or is just wear?

Opinion.
Our FL don't have roof bars to the end of the top.
So fixing a roof box might be a bit tricky.
I have a four leg son (Viszla). So I need the boot space for him. So for luggage its better a roof basket ?
What you think and what can I get?

Many Thanks

I've never taken the sunroof apart, but does sound like a tooth has broken on a gear.

The standard roof rails are fine for taking roof bars and a roof box, or get a trailer.

Sunroof design is it closes until it can't go further, the current increases and so the control module shuts off power. So worn mechanism causes the clunking. As the guides wear ( causes rattling)as well it's really a new sunroof needed, I've seen the price of a few hundred pounds !!!! So id just use it till it gets really bad, which may last some time.
Roof bars and boxes, the side rails go far enough for cross rails and any size box you want

Sunroof gears wear out, more so if the cables and runners are dry or rusted. Most people simply pull the fuse, and forget it exists.

My roof box fits on the cross bars just fine, although it would depend on the actual box being used.

Thank you for your answers.
About the sun roof well I have cleaned it and put some grease on it. It works fine. I just have to have in mind that there is I missing tooth so I need to be careful.
Now the roof bars I was curious to see what you guys have done. Because the roof bars don't go to the end of the top. so what I see is that the roof box or roof basket comes really forward covering the sun roof. I prefer a roof basket so I cant install some spot lights. But I would like to keep the sun roof clear..
Getting a trailer...well....no
Maybe I cant have the best of both worlds...
