Yipee! Trans failsafe. Back for more pain, bought an L322

It will definitely be the neautral inhibitor. Mine had the same intermittent fault and changed it out last weekend and after 1000k no more bongs. Second hand cost 120 from a guy in wales who breaks L322 a. Contact me if you need his number.
Ruby range, you say intermittent, my failsafe happens about 10 minutes into every journey... I could almost predict when it was going to happen. So tonight I was delighted when I passed the various "its going to bong" markers and not a peep!

Mine would happen 2 or 3 times a day and then nothing for a week. Always happened when selecting drive or park but slowly got worse. Turn ignition off remove key and start again and all was well. Now good as gold after a trip up north at the weekend.

Unfortunately I think my failsafe isn't going to be a simple fix unless by some miracle and a sprinkling of fairy dust it cures itself overnight!

you need to stick a diagnostics reader on it My problem was a solenoid inside the gearbox sump the diagnostics pointed to it straight away Saves a lot of time I used my own reader which was cheap

Yep, think you are right about solenoid. I needed to service the gearbox anyway for my own piece of mind, previous owner had serviced it just before I bought it and I had planned to carry out a third service within 500 miles... my diagnostics scanner is only picking up an evap P0443 code which I thought was historical but it keeps coming back after reset so that is on the list of jobs. Don't think it is related to Trans failsafe? Will pop into local garage on Friday to see if they can pinpoint which solenoid is faulty... from other threads it seems B is the culprit, I assume that when buying all the solenoids are the same and I may be better off replacing all of them?

So there is no valve etc.. at rear of engine next to bulkhead? So used to owning Volvos etc.. with evap systems. I have seen UK vlogs on changing and cleaning, they must be imports?
Just read RAVE - it does mention the EVAP system, so I could be wrong - maybe it was P38's that didn't have the EVAp system fitted and was NAS spec only....

Anyhow, I will have to look closer at the bulkhead on mine and see if I can spot the little canister valve thingy....never really noticed it to be fair....

I would much rather you were right! Now its another thing to worry about.... I did think "P38 didn't have a.. quick.. quick.. lets do something about global warming before we get a huge fine!" emissions add on. Just bought a New Beetle for peanuts, owner sold it cheap due to the strange noise it made when starting from cold.... secondary air induction system?????? Thought I had seen all the quick fix emissions systems.

Did you find out about EVAP system on yours?

Havent had the chance to go and see it as the car sits in a secure car park at my office 15 miles away....I am currently driving my Bimmer as I am working 70 miles away and it is cheaper on fuel .... I usually pop into my normal office once or twice a week to upload some work onto our network....I'll have a look then.
