Evening Peeps.. hows tricks.......

Got an "Annoying" prob with me sunroof ... display says "Sunroof Open" IT ISN'T..But let me explain further .....

Changed the battery t'other day so expected the Windows/Sunroof/Mirrors ect "Not Set" display ..... Done the windows/mirrors ...Easy!!!

Sunroof however is prooving "Problamatical" my roof has NEVER retracted fully with either 1 push or holding down the button it stops Approx 1/2 way I then release the button & push again for fully open & the same happens when closing

Did the usual with it & it stopped showing "Sunroof not set" & is now displaying "Sunroof open" ......

I have noticed that there is "NO STOP" between Slide & tilt .... ( If I have it "Tilted" & wish to close it unless I time it just right it does not stop at "Closed" but carries on to "Slide"..........) ect ect....

Bright ideas ALWAYS welcome

Cheers Guys

Give all the moving parts a lube and 'help' it open gently while pressing the button. (Unless it's jamming half open in which case a bit dismantling is needed.) There is a sensor up there. It's obviously not catching when it is closed. It should give a little kick as it settles closed. I take it yours doesn't as it goes right through this phase. Does it give a messge 'sunroof blocked' at any point during it's opening cycle?

It has done once Hippo, I have the "Feeling" that when it stops it "THINKS" its closed ....but then again knowing me I'm more than likley talkin outta me Arse!!!

Work it through it's full range of travel a couple of times and make sure it's smooth running. Have a look along the runners as best you can to see if there is any obstruction. There was another recent thread where someone had to renew one of the runners or the bit to which the cable attaches however that had broken and was sitting lopsided so not quite the same as yours. When it's closing from the slid open position it should go up into it's recess and 'pop' down about a millimetre or so and stop. That's from memory as it's just a bit late, frosty and a hail storm here at the moment to compare with mine just now.

.....'sunroof blocked' isn't the same as being closed so it won't be thinking it is closed hence why it's not setting.

Mornin Hippo,

It does NOT say "Sunroof Blocked" when it stops it just stops... Checked it again this mornin & I got it to say "Blocked" when it was closing from "Tilt" ( took about 10 go's though. which is where it said it before.)

I measured it & it stops EXACTLY halfway (To the millimeter) when sliding from open & closing.

Very weird is this ..................

I may have read this threat wrong so forgive me - however on my BMW (i know its not a landy but. . .) from closed - i would push button once it would open to half way. Push again opens fully. From shut - push button and hold it - opened all the way. Closing was different. From open push button once closed a bit, to close fully I had to keep finger on button. If i pushed it to continue closing once closed it went to tilt, to allow air flow but not allow rain in etc. My point is, the switch aint the wrong way round is it? So when your closing it it thinks your wanting it open and visa versa, hope I explained that right?

EDIT I have noticed that there is "NO STOP" between Slide & tilt .... ( If I have it "Tilted" & wish to close it unless I time it just right it does not stop at "Closed" but carries on to "Slide"..........) ect ect....

this was normal for my BMW - if tilted, and I wished to close it I had to be quick or it carried on passed the tilt and opened, I had to then open it further, to then close it - it would then stop at closed and a second or two would go by before it would carry on to tilt. I just got used to taking my finger off at that point. There was nothing wrong with it, it was designed to do it. However when it had been raining lots, the seals, which were a kind of dense brush type material would get saturated and it caused it to stick, and like you I had to time it right.

Thanks for the input Stormm I just went out & tried again .....it only says "Blocked" when closing from Tilt ..( & of course bounces open again) after 2 or3 trys it clears the Blocked & motors to slide. ( & Stops Half Way, until I push the button again & then it motors all the way open,

Tried the "One Touch" on the button, NOWT!!! i HAVE to hold the button to make it tilt.

But I do know what yer mean My Lad has a 2001 535i & his roof does the same but it STOPS at CLOSED!! its the NOT Closing & "Sunroof Open" that is drivin me nuts!!!!

Just another possibly useless thought - is there a baffler guard on those. What I mean is on mine there was a plastic guard that folded up when the sunroof was open. It stopped the air cavatating (collapsing in on itself when at high speed - stopping that heavy thumping noise)

They are spring loaded. After winter if I had not used my sunroof for a while the plastic guard would slightly distort and cause problems for the first few weeks until the good weather arrived. I got some grease and put it on the hinge bits and opened the sunroof fully and pushed the wind guard down loads of times until the mechanism worked properly. As the warmer weather arrived the problem went away. If thats interfering with the sensors and the tilt it could be that. Other than that I dont know what to say other than hope you get it sorted buddy.

Is the rubber seal around the roof panel split or raised away from it in any way? It seems weird that it shows blocked half way down then only goes half way in. That would indicate to me a high spot at, say, a point half way along the sides, maybe the join in the rubbery material. It will have a metal strip inside it which can expand or distort.

just a thought, when i was reading up , about my sunroof, i noticed that the motor must have its own set stop position,as it says, set the sunroof into closed position, then, to remove the motor from the cables, then press the button until motor stops, then replace motor, you may have to turn the slot in the motor, to align the cables, then adjust the glass fixing to the brackets.
