Yet another problem!! Please help

Hi everyone,
I am new here but as I am in desparate need of help I didn't have time to introduce myself in the right section. I have had my disco now for a year and love her to bits but at the moment it is just one problem after another, for example yesterday she cost me 190 quid for a new window regulator and air con to be tested and gassed. I had £180 in my dedicated disco repair fund which was lucky but that is now empty! Then, tonight as I pulled away. From mc Donalds drive through the abs, traction control and hill descent light all came on and now won't go off::( Now if the fact that I am skint isn't bad enough I have agreed to let my sister and her family borrow the disco to go on holiday tomorrow morning and I bet most garages are shut so I was just hoping someone could tell me is this a major problem or if a garage cannot be found can she take it anyway?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as although I love my disco I know absolutely nothing about how she works and feel like kicking her !!
 
probably wheel sensor or wheel brg ,if your skint should have left aircon till later and done window reg yourself for £20 ,all three systems run off abs and so a faulty sensor or gap by worn brg will give you the 3 lights,needs putting on diagnostic test to show fault unless wheel noticeably running on worn brg,if just senors could be run around for years without problems if brg depends could be days or months
 
Oops now I look like even more of a div than when I first posted, never mind I do have broad shoulders and it looks like a good club so maybe I will mature:)
 
As James said earlier the "Three Amigos" (as the appearance of these three lights are often referred to) can be caused by a number of different things so effective diagnosis is important.

This vehicle of yours - can we have a bit more info such as:

Model year
TD5?
Manual or auto?
Does it have the Centre Difflock linkage installed?

As to whether it is safe for your sister to drive or not, you could try the following tests:

1. When you turn on the ignition, do these lights first come on with all the others then go off - or do they just stay on?

2. Find a safe piece of road and with the left hand wheels on the grass verge or gravel and the right hand wheels on the road, press the footbrake firmly. Does the ABS actuate and can you feel the pulsing through the pedal?

Sometimes these electrical faults are caused by poor battery condition so it would be a good idea to put the battery on charge overnight. You do have the radio code don't you?

My disco is auto td5, metropolis, she is lovely, built in sat nav but obviously roads have moved on a lot in ten years so that's absolutely useless!!!
This morning I was told the 3 amigos were a warning but sister could take my baby and would be ok but I was probably looking at a "magnetic hub for 190 plus vat" or it is a sensor???
Anyway half an hour into their journey to Whitby I get a call to say the cornering enhancement light is on!! Upon further investigation fluid is topped up and in the end she got them all safely phew.....
I have now had enough, I am offski, above sister said to me yesterday "maybe you should upgrade as although you are loan free now you are paying more in repairs every month than if you had a car loan"
She has a good point and I do feel that if you know frigg all about cars like me the disco 2 is not the car for you.
I am eyeing up a disco 3 now in the hope of a bit of some trouble free, warning light absent driving! Am I deluded????

A couple of thoughts:

1. Early Land Rover products should really be treated as enthusiasts cars in my opinion and bought by folks who are more than happy to get their hands dirty and have mechanical experience and tools.

2. The first batch of Discovery 3's were know for glitches so if you decide to go for one, buy 2006 or newer.


Just a question that's going through my mind, why do you want a Discovery at all? They are heavy on fuel, need more maintenance than a normal family car and only offer benefits if you want to offroad/tow very heavy loads etc.

PS There is no such thing as a magnetic hub on a D2 - so if that is what your garage said it needs they are talking bâlls and I would doubt their competence.
 
if disco 2 is complicated disco 3 will be more and so will the bills if needs fixing,you probably only need sensor or wheel brg and hub , ithink you need someone with knowledge and sense to look at it so you dont get ripped off

Yeah my thoughts too sometimes, but i just love to off road, lol, and i tow as well, but why would someone own a car that is well known for requireing maintance, when they dont use it for what its designed for, and then go baloo when it breaks down, if you dont do the maint yourself, then one will cost you a fortune.

Oh well i better go and nip up my front bearing as it got a bit of playin it.
