Hi. New here so be nice. Series 3 1972. 2.25 petrol. LPG converted. Standard lucas 25d dizzy and maplin electronic ignition module. Some months ago the engine began to cut out at random intervals- on petrol and Lpg -. If i waited 2-3 mins (having switched ignition off). It would start again and run very sweetly- just as before. Then after a few more minutes off again. I changed the coil, the dizzy cap the leads the plugs, the ignition switch. I checked the points setting them by feeler and with dwell meter. I have replaced the LT wire inside the dizzy and checked for bad earth between base plate and the earth on battery. I thought there was a problem with the dizzy because if she cut out i would open dizzy, flick the points open, put cap back on and vroom.. for a bit longer. However that may just be coincidence as i did it today and no go. So i just wait and off it goes again. Power stays on at coil throughout but the cut out is just like someone tuning off the key. No pops, bangs just off. Any thoughts? Anyone had these probs with a maplin electronic box ?

You should be able to bypass the module fairly easily - if this solves the problem replace the module. Have you tried replacing the condensor?

hi oxides. I am going to bypass unit and go back to standard ignition to see if that changes anything. The Condensor is redundant with the maplin system so its never had one. We shall see what the continued tinkering acheives- done just about everthing else.

Aah - some people just leave the condensor in. I've had one go short circuit when hot.
