Yet another EAS question - but not the usual???

Have you tried removing the EAS relay overnight and see if it sinks down onto the bump stops?
At least that would eliminate either one of electrical or mechanical failure.

Hi all - quick update from today's attempts - height sensors seem to function well. Bags (although tired) do not appear to be leaking. Check all lines - also seem ok.

As it happens, I have done 4 or 5 journeys today and around 100 miles & the eas seems to be working fine again!?!?!?:confused:

Any more suggestions would be gratefully received!!

Cheers all :)

If the airbags look "tired" they almost certainly leak and it's not always possible to see the leaks.

Your other info suggests a height sensor, driver pack or bad connection.
Worth parting the connectors in the EAS box and giving them a clean and also checking the earth connections.:)

Thanks datatek - I shall check the connections tomorrow (all still working ok at the mo though......fingers crossed!!)

New air bags next month (after pay day of course!)

Does anybody have any advice/experience/comments re air bag types - arnott gen2, gen3, original parts???

Thanks all

Bobbles

Unless you are into serious off roading, forget Arnott Gen 3's, you would also need to change the shocks to use the greater articulation.
Personally I think Arnott Gen 2's are worth the extra over OEM.
Don't forget to order retaining clips.
There is a guide in the How To section or I can send it to you if you PM with an email address:)

To get proper communication you must have good idle. A steady green light. It may flicker a little as it works but must not go red. Or you have bad comms. If you have bad comms you get a long list of rubbish like the one you posted. Usually this problem is associated with use of a USB link to the EASunlock suit. I have never been able to get my USB ACER to work but the old serial DELL works every time.

I'm using an Acer laptop with Datatek's cable and a PL-2303 USB-serial adapter, and it's working fine under Vista. The trouble with computers is that if you have just one weak link you can run into problems - yours could be USB driver, adapter driver, adapter chipset, etc, etc.

Yeah i know what it can be but have never bothered with it. The Dell does the job fine without problems. The system was designed around a serial port and Windows XP. It works without trouble on a serial port. But you do need Netframework loaded. Also have Nanocom so playing with ACER is not a priority.

Hi everyone,

Just thought a little update on the eas was called for:

Now replaced compressor, replaced o rings in valve block, new air bags all round & replaced clips at the same time(rear bags were not in a good way :()

Also replaced shocks, which were beginning to show signs of excessive wear. Replaced anti roll bar drop links and bushes.

There is a much larger list of jobs to date (and a credit card to verify the increasing cost )

However; still love the RR and now have a 'nearly' fully functioning motor.

Unfortunately. Though, the eas still has a few niggles - when left overnight, she is losing height and when left for more than 24hrs, she needs around 5 minutes on start up to replenish the lost height/air.

Does this sound like a leak in the storage side? Not sure how she would behave if this were the case. In normal running I am not getting any faults, but when carrying a bit of weight (ca60-80kg) I get 'eas fault' message - is this because she is working harder to level/adjust??

Haven't checked the pressure storage side - gauge on order for the weekend.

Any pointers are greatly appreciated!!

BTW - big thanks to Keith for the guide to changing the bags - very clear, easy to follow and a real help!! Cheers

Thanks all.:):)

Sounds like you have a leak on the storage and airbag side.which may indicate the leak is in the valve block.AS a start Try removing the EAS timer (under passenger seat) when you park overnight. This will help determine which corner is leaking(if any are) as the EAS will not self level overnight.

Thanks John & Saint.

I shall try the EAS timer to see if I can isolate a specific corner & although I think I got the diaphragm seal the right way around - I think another strip down is in order!!

Cheers for the pointers :):)

The spring loaded non return valves in the block can also be troublesome if worn, Wammers knows more about them than I do, I'm not so bothered about the detail of what they do I just try to make sure they are perfect:)
You may have leaks where the pipes enter the airbags, had that on mine when I did it. Removed the offending pipe, smear of silicone grease, re-inserted, problem fixed.:)

Before pulling stuff apart again, if it drops a corner after doing the EAS timer pull, make sure you have no leaks at the pipe connection to the valve block. Soapy water test. Mine did this last week after compressor rebuild (during which I pulled the 4 pipes fron the valve block). I had a tiny leak which was cured by pressing the collet in and pulling out the pipe just 2 to 3mm, giving the O ring a fresh seating around the pipe.

Conversely when you have had the pipes out and replace them. Push them in again when there is pressure in system and the suspension has risen there is then pressure against the O rings. They will go in just a little further. That sometimes clears a small weep.

Fantastic everyone - I really appreciate all the pointers!!

I have set Sunday aside for sorting a few little niggles out, so shall hopefully be able to post some more good news on Monday! :)

A little pre-tinkering update and further request for pointers.....

I have managed to park the RR on level ground, for the last couple of nights, for the first time since noticing the drop in height - it now transpires that only the front bags seem to be losing air - does anyone know whether this changes any of the above advice? Or does anybody have any more helpful pointers to add??.

thanks again everyone.

Well - thank you everyone for all of te very helpful advice - wammers your top tip wins on this occasion!!

Am man of very little patienc, I couldn't wait until the weekend to have a tinker on the RR - checked, pushed and re-seated all of te airlines & low and behold - no air loss!!

That's two really easy fixes i have had this week - extremely pleased and grateful for all of the help.

Thanks everyone :D:D:D
