Are they clamping down on that?

It's now an automatic fail if a vehicle originally had a cat fitted and is not present... regardless of if it passes the emission test without it.

I'll sell you my VIN. My P38 genuinely didn't have them fitted. :D

If yours is an export model that is not unusual. But any petrol P38 made for the British domestic market has always had them. The fitting of cats to petrol engined vehicles for road use in this country became compulsory in 1993.

So how about those people who have fitted a replacement pipe that still contains what looks like Cats...

Can't see the MOT folks being that thorough, if it looks like its got cats and passes emission are they really going to dig deeper?

I was tempted to de cat mine as they are rattling like mad! Guess I'll be putting new cats back on then!

Are you sure its the cats rattling? i had a noise that sounded like loose baffles in the exhaust but on further inspection found the handbrake drum bolts were loose.

mine's due an mot next week. I'd better look underneath.

Does this apply to all vehicles? Motorcycles and cars? If so, I'm a little f'ked.

Will update this thread next month after my MOT as I have got a stainless Y pipe fitted with two cylinders in them that could look like CATs to the MOT man.

What will they do for cars like an Elise where you can't see the exhaust unless you take the flat floor off.

Its the new mot regs came into force on the 1st of jan ....Also out laws dodgey HID installations.... with no head light wash or load levelling......

Defo my drivers side cat, if your under the car it sounds like a bag of spanners banging around in it!

Probably not the right thread to ask but are the cheapos on ebay any good? £160 seems like a total bargain... to good to be true?

All new mot regs are advisor only till april then they will become failure items also all you lpg guys make sure you ain't leaking gas as that is part of the test now also tyres that sit outside of arches also towbar wiring is to be checked

As with the elise jf it cnt seen it cnt b failed there is now a box for cars which have full.undershields on is an advisor only

On the tow bar wiring front if you have 7 pin sockets then I believe it is purely a visual inspection and only a full test if you have a 13pin socket fitted.

Yep correct. Visual only 7 pin. No cat on LPG, advisory til 31st March. 1st April an automatic fail.

that's good news. MoT is due well before April. If they've been removed, I'll have some empty boxes made up.

I guess if the log is leaking, it would smell. When you take the filler nozzle off, it stinks.

Don't just fit empty boxes they will resonate like hell, put a pipe through them.
