Hi all, I have just given up on my D1 200tdi as the rot has become to much:( and im considering getting a defender 110 200tdi as i can get it cheap from a friend but im wondering why everyone seems to prefer defenders?

anyone here rate their disco over a defender or do we all have one because we cant afford a defender:eek:

What are the pros and cons between the two? any one who has had both? anyone swoped from defender to disco?

all info is handy as i have never had a defender before

defenders are:

more useful for the working man

better for greenlaning (narrower)

easier to repair (body panels unbolt wherever you need to get access)

much worse value for money than discos

more moddable for off road with a marginally greater amount of handy accessories available, but a well modded disco will manage most things a 90 can, physical size being the only drawback

cooler for the everyday driver, and pull more birds than discos

more of a PITA on the road, disco has off road cred and comfort cred

STOLEN ALL THE TIME which is a thing which 100% puts me off. i dont care how much better they are, i outright refuse to put over 1000 hours into a vehicle to prepare it and have it stolen the week after its finished. i dont think its worth the risk.

cheers

cheers mr noisy!

what makes them more of a pita on the road? it will have car seats in and a 2" lift if that will afect anything? as for the stolen thing i live in the arse end of nowhere not even the postman knows where to go:p

pretty much mate they drive the same on the road cos its the same chassis so it handles very simlarly, but they are noisier, shakier and quite loud on the motorway. this is due to aluminium construction throughout, no rubber mounts between body and chassis and lack of sound deadening etc.

a 2" lift wont make any difference to on road really mate, slightly more roll perhaps and vaguer steering unless you crrect the front axle caster.

if you like your land rovers rough and ready you'll love a defender, lets be honest D1s arent that fabulous either, but theres is a great difference in driving a 300tdi disco and 300tdi 110 down the road (i drove both today as it happens)

as i have tried to explain, they actually drive the same pretty much if you had your ears closed, you just feel a lot more in a defender, but that in itself is enjoyable as like i say, if you enjoy your land rovers then a defender is the icing on the cake.

cheers
