Been offered a 2003 300tdi Defender 110 for my Discovery 2 td5 2003...

My disco has 115.000km on the clock. Upgraded to 16" wheels + 265/75/16 AT. No egr + No cat from factory. Very well maintained. 2" lift with Bearmach Blue Coils:

I'm very satisfied with with BUT.... You know Defenders... They are legendary.. There's something about them that makes me want one. But MAYBE this something won't justify having it in exchange of my disco...

The 110 in question has 230.000km on the clock:

Another important point I want to add. I'm planning an around the world trip with this vehicle (if I keep the Disco or go with the 110). Defenders are the choice for that, but Discos are much more comfy...

Help me :)

thanks

If I was you it's a no brainer. The Defender for it's mechanical simplicity, rugged strength and availability of parts globally. If you get stuck in bum f**k nowhere your.more likely to get out with a fix on a Defender.

The defender is worth more money, swap, fix whatever is wrong with the defender (there usually is something that needs doing) sell it and go buy a Land Cruiser. Simples.

Providing the 110 is mechanicaly sound and has no major problems and the body is solid with no issues too I'd swap in an instant!

Like you say there is something about Defenders that make you want one so very badly!

LOL HILARIOUS... The Defender holds its value... Disco is awesome and tbh not far off mechanically, but a 20 year old Defender sells for 5-6 k The equivalent Disco may well go for 1k...

Don't think you would get a 2003 Td5 110 CSW for £5-6k, £5-6k will get you a early tatty Td5 90 van or a clean (ish) 300 tdi 90.

When we went abroad we partnered with a chap in a Disco one year younger than our 110 CSW 200TDI, he paid £600 for his disco and we agreed 4-5k for mine....It was madness as they are so similar and the Disco more comfortable.

No contest, go for the Defender. Can't understand why the guy would consider a swap for his Defender. I'm sure he will regret it. Several people I know who have got rid of there defenders have regretted doing so.

1998 was the last year for the 300 TDI in the uk even though it went on for extra years in ROW (Rest Of World) vehicles.

Depends if you want simplicity and reliability (300) or more refinement, complexity and potentially larger bills.(TD5)

Thanks guys, did my first test drive on a defender and I must say I'm in love with My disco! Think most of you guys are considering what a it would be best financially but suddenly I stopped wanting to swap a car for a tractor..
