HI Folks, Im totally new to this LANDYZONE club so Id like to introduce myself....(vinnieboy.) & ask for help right away.
Im prob on the wrong page AGAIN but bear with me, I just bought a 2003 petrol freelander & think I got a good deal on it so Im quite happy so far. I aint got the log book yet as the last lady owner sent it away to dvla. Anyway all I keep reading is series 1,2,3, etc & all I know is that my car has a 1.8 or 2 litre engine so can anyone enlighten me as to what series my car is & how they arrive at that conclusion.?? Thanks In Advance.

There are 2 'generations' of Freelander. The original "Freelander" was first sold in '97 and ran through to 2006. This was replaced by the "Freelander 2" at that point. That was terminated in 2014 and the Freelander name has not been used by LR since then - it was replaced with the Discovery Sport.

The original Freelander is often now called the "Freelander 1" - simply to specifically differentiate from the Freelander 2. On Landyzone, and other places, these may be shortened to F1 and F2.

There have been continual changes to the cars over the years, but usually very small. In 2004 though there was a major change to the F1 with many obvious revised components (such as bumpers). This is still the 'F1' - but known as the 'Facelift'.

Yours is therefore an F1 pre-facelift and, if it is petrol with 4 cylinders, will be the 1.8.

As GG said. Your LR is a Freelander 1 1.8 K series petrol. 2003 had a lot of improvements over a pre 2000 Freelander.
Series 1,2,3 or whatever is relating to a completely different model of LR, so is irrelevant to you. You have a Freelander 1 ;)

Thhanks man,Any other info or snippets about the car body/engine/interior/upgrades etc please let me know. As it happensmaybe you can advise on this...I bought a set of front & rear light guards off the fleabay but when I studied the fotos the guy sent me the rears were straight forward fit to the existing holes but the fronts only had fitting holes at one side & what looked like locating pins on the other side, when I checked the car I couldn,t find locating holes so does that mean I have to drill holes or am I missing something???

From light guards need holes drilled to fit them ;).
What mods do you want?
The list of add ons is long.

Well I,ll start with the bumper but I don,t know what else I,d like to do as I don,t know whats on the list. So where will I source a bumper & what does it look like?? (a foto would be nice).

You can add larger wheels/ tyre combinations. You can add a suspension lift if that's your thing.
Depending on what model you have, you can up spec it to a higher model.
You can add spot lights or fog lights up front.
Improve the audio system/ speakers and so on.

Your VIN tells you what Model Year car you have, 1A###### is a 2001MY, 2A###### a 2002MY, etc.
Date of registration is not accurate for MY as a car could have been sat for months before being sold and registered with the DVLA

I was intending doing up a sound system and fitting a couple of dvd players but after finding out the car is liable tofall to bits without any warning I,ll have to think about it. So is there any ways I can use to stop what is going to happen before it does happen???

OK - time to come clean.... who are you?

My guess is a disenchanted Tratterer not wanting to come to terms with the fact they want a Freelander.

Thanks bro...Now that is a positive answer, you can,t hide from facts. Speaking of facts.. my car is a 2003 model and runs really sweet just nowso my question is HOW THE FACKT has it not fallen to pieces yet.????

Your close bro but not on target,,,I,m just a big hairy Scotsman who spent his money on a car suitable for gays only & can only wait & watch for the engine to drop off and scatter bits of it and me all over the road. Now don,t go thinking I don,t like gay people but its just that I went out of my way to buy two screwdrivers and a shifting spanner to work on the car when what I should,ve bought was a tin of haitspray & some kirby grips. It kinda minds me of the wee disabled guy who couldn,t walk so went to Lourdes and got someone to help him through the holy waters... Anyway he got to the other side only to find he was still crippled but to his astonishment when he looked down to see he had a new set of treads on his wheelchair .tyres.

I wouldn't eggspect someone lucky enough to own a Freelander to post this cr*p. Time to ignore it.

You are getting confused. The Freelander was LRs first vehicle that DIDN'T fall to bits at the slightest bit of road salt it drove over. Those orrible agricultural, noisy, bouncy and cold tratter things is the ones that drops to bits.
The Freelander is a proper small LR for those that might actually want to spend more time driving it, than trying to stop it from rusting away.
From now on, only sensible Freelander based questions will be answered.

@vinnieboy put some pictures up of your vehicle including the engine bay and I'm sure one of these nice gentlemen will identify it for you. I the mean time may I recommend that you refrain from slagging off their hippos that are a truly fine vehicle well deserving of the great Land Rover badge :p
See @Hippo sometimes us tratterers can be nice :D

Nurse is it time for my medication?
