worn bearings?

Hi guys. Well... heres a bit of the story; when i release the clutch there is a quiet clonking noise. so im guessing that = release bearing.
But the gearbox (or something) is 'noisey' in neutral. However when i depress the clutch the noise stops. The haynes fault finding says this is due to input shaft/mainshaft bearings worn?
But...they also say that if you have noise in neutral when clutch depressed and not when released then its the clutch release bearing. so im confused as from the releasing the clutch symptom its suggests this needs changing!
Also for the last few weeks i have been getting a lot of vibration in the body when im driving along. This only happens when you give it throttle. If the throttle is released/clutch dipped/ or coasting in neutral - it stops?!
Please help! My landy is driving me to brakedown All i can see is £££££££...
Main concern is the vibration and whats causing that.
Is replacing these bearings a major job (if they are the prob)? Hope not as already spending a fortune on some pretty major panel damage :doh:

sounds like the clutch release bearing is wearing away - they tend to die slowly and increasingly loudly - GB out job to replace, but not so difficult as it's just spanners etc

check the prop UJs for play as well - also very easy to replace

These clutch plate springs rattle a bit, it's a common noise, a sort of chattering?

But the vibration and chatter could be caused by a failing clutch cover, which could also explain the noise you get when you dip the clutch; the noise may be coming from the diaphragm spring.

When it comes to this you do the lot anyway, you don't open it up and put in a release bearing, you put in the whole kit, just not worth the effort for a £15 bearing.

Bearing, clutch plate and cover, release fork (HD - or make it HD yourself).
