My Mantec snorkel arrived yesterday so will be fitted soon. The wading kit is in the post as well. Last time I fitted stuff to my Defender people requested photos.
Anyone interested in a snorkel and wading kit fitting?:)

I haven't fitted it yet! I will send some preliminary piccies this evening as unlike BGB I am a loser with a day job! Looking at the Mantec kit it doesn't look too challenging to fit but it is the sealing that will have to be done thoroughly.:)

I totally agree, but we MUST have piccies :D

Installation piccies attached. All of my pictures are in my shared album 'Mantec snorkel' and only a select view are attached.
This was a really easy installation and went well. I'm not convinced the rivnuts would provide a good seal between the snorkel and the wing so used loose nyloc nuts instead. The rivnuts just didn't appear to pull the snorkel into the wing as well as I would have liked. The nyloc nuts did however and they felt more snug. I also sealed the snorkel to wing with silicone sealant and wet assembled the fasteners with etch primer.
The Mantec snorkel felt and appeared well made. It is fairly heavy duty polythene and having used this material many times in the past feel confident it will last. It didn't interfere with the wing mounted aerial and the door/mirror opening is still as it was with full range of movement. Mantec have sunk anchor nuts into the polythene which works well as long as installers understand that metal into plastic fasteners need a certain amount of 'feel'.
This installation took around an hour in the dark but I took my time and measured a couple of times before drilling. I also struggled to convert from metric as most of my tooling (and my brain) works in imperial!
The Mantec snorkel doesn't reduce the field of view much at all and is hardly visible from the drivers seat and it looks relatively aerodynamic except for the big f**k off mushroom top!
A good 'tug test' has reavealed no movement and I will road test it tomorrow. My wading kit is in the post so more pictures to follow when I fit that.
At £130 all in this kit is well worth a look.:)

top banana. :) thats the type i had before i replaced it with a mushroom top.

You did well to get it done in a n hour. mine took longer.

The sealant is a right mess but I will tidy it up in daylight. I go to work in the dark and drive home in the dark so I dont get much chance through the week. I think my wading kit is waiting for collection at the post office so that's my next job!
I think the safari looks better than the Mantec but this kit was cheap so got my vote! :)

The real benefit of going to work in the dark and going home in the dark is that I don't get to see SWMBO in daylight!

It does make it awkward to make a neat job of sealing a snorkel though. :D
