Won't fire up

Hi I'm new to Landyzone,
My freelander td4 2006 has been running great since I first got her .
Now all of a sudden she won't fire up. Only when she feels like it .
I've had her to a garage and they couldn't find the problem.
I was behind two cars at some traffic lights and she stalled. I couldn't get her started. After some minuets I banged on steering column near to the ignition and she fired up.
Has any one know what the problem is .

I think I'd be checking the ignition switch

In the old days, you could just hot wire it but now with all these new fangled electronic gizmos, it could be anything but I would agree with freelance, check the ignition switch and associated connections.

The car has fired up in the morning to go to work , but when I switch off engine and try to start , it won't .I wanted to go out Saturday afternoon but it wouldn't fire up, had to catch bus. But tried to fire up on Saturday evening and she started.No faults have been detected on engine management system

Did you check the connections to the ignition switch, is it sending power to the solenoid when you turn the key to start?

no col haven't checked wiring yet,and I don't know where the solenoid is situated either lol ,

I'm not certain, but I think on your vehicle it is built onto the starter.
