Hi Chaps,
Been away for a while....:cool:
I'm about to retire, so I'm old, knackered and leaping about is no longer my style, so I need some advice from someone who has been there, done that and got the T-shirt.

I have a ratty but solid ex-mil FFR 109 petrol and two major projects in mind, in my driveway, with no lift or hoist.

1: I need to replace the clutch plate - the travel is becoming a little long - it's OK for now, but will need doing before I'm too physically knackered. :(
Do I do it? Do I pay someone to do it? Is there someone on here who would like the work?
Is it realistic to do this in the driveway? Am I just going to knacker myself and have to pay someone anyway?

Aaaaaaand...

2: I have scrapyard P38 bits for power steering conversion. I'm a reasonable amateur fabricator - any thoughts vis-à-vis old & knackered?

3: I have a Corsa steering column & controlly box thingy here which I've discounted as the way to go for me - anybody want it?
 
Twas a long time ago but I recall doing the clutch on my 109 by sliding the box back with a trolley jack and leaving it resting on the crossmember. All on my own too but I was only 33 then.
 
You could do the easy stuff like props, floor plates, tranny covers etc and get some hefty blokes to handle the box.
You haven't got too much free play at the master cylinder pushrod have you?

I remember doing things like that 33 years ago at 33. Probably why I can barely move now! :)
 
Nah - checked all that - hydraulics & clearances all good - just running out of clutch plate. It's mileage appropriate.
 
Do you have an engine crane? If not is there somewhere local that you can hire one (or borrow from a friend)? Engine crane through the door to slide the box back and there should be very little physical manhandling you actually need to do.

That's a helpful thought..... I wonder if I could rig something ......
 
Manhandling is no longer an option! :(
Not if I want to do anything other than whine mournfully for the next month or so......
