Good morning all,

I have some wiring located behind the stereo of my defender. It's not connected to the stereo, but think it might have something to do with what was in the vehicle before I took it on, as it was a former Fire and Rescue vehicle. So maybe Radio, Siren connection?

Anyone seen this before or know what it could be?

I have an old Mountain rescue vehicle and those connectors are for blue lights cb and tannoy.

Cheers guys. So do you think I can take the connectors off and use the power cables for additional cig lighter and USB sockets then? Or should I take them out and replace completely?

The little lights - inside your speedo for example - that let you see them ay night. Many 12 sockets will have a little bulb/led that makes the surround glow green so you can find it in the dark.

So they're connected to the light circuit then? So would I connect the red and white to + on 12 cig lighter? I was just going to wire live to switch to cig lighter, so I can turn on power of the cig lighter, rather than it be on all the time and flatten my battery.

Red/white is connected to the light circuit, but don't connect it to the main lighter terminal - it's a low current feed for interior lights only. There may be a smaller connector on the lighter for illumination. You could connect one of the browns to the main +ve terminal on the lighter socket. The lighter shouldn't draw any power when it's not in use, so it's OK to leave wired permanently (through a fuse of course). However, that is what the purple is for - this is a fused permanent battery connection. I can see a purple wire in one of your photos.

My plan is to have a RDX console with 2 x cig lighter, 1 x USB and rear washer, plus switches to turn these on/off when needed. I will also have switches for internal lights and external lights. Do you think I can do that by using the current brown cables, or should I use the purple ones too?

As you can probably tell, i'm not very good at basic wiring.. :)
