Hi all,

Another question for you all i am affraid.

I know LED lighting and electronics but not more industrial electrics hence my question.

I have a roof bar and 4 wipac lights i want to wire up to come on with full beam.

Can i have one wire from the roof to the power source and daisy chain the other 3 lights through each other or do i need to wire each light individually to the power source?

What bulbs are you putting in them?

If 55W then you could get away with a single big wire as your only going to be drawing 18 1/2 amps down it.

If your going for 100W bulbs then you would be better off using at least 2 feeds - it just depends on how you intend on joining the daisy chain together inside the lamps, and what size wire your intending on using.

I have the ones under my front bumper (all 100W) wired seperatly using a multicore cable with 8x2.5mm seperate cores in it. - I opted for 2 cables to the roof as it was a big hole to cut :) These then go back to a bank of relays which run off a bus-bar behind the passenger seat, which then connects to the battery under the seat via 25mm cable. This may seem like over kill but then I can boil the kettle of the inverter running off the system as well as have 1Kw of light on at the same time :D

I was planning 100w to i guess your right about the amps going through a chain.

I'll wire individually and tidy the cables up with braid or something.

Cheers.

p.s thanks Sean. i did search and found nothing!

What relays are you running?

I've taken a look on RS and are they seriously £40 a pop?

I may have gone overboard with ratings :D...at least i bloody hope so.

I should add.

My search didnt find anything but i probably wasnt being clear enough with my parameters.

Seans wiring diagram is spot on. I just dont understand what relay i need (sorry).

Cheers.

I types "100W roof lights".

Just did it again and amongst others found the post with your schematic.

Not sure what the hell i did to be honest.

I dont doubt i did something stupid so apologise for starting another thread about something already covered.

Oh Figured out the relays ;)

Sorry again. If the thread can be closed please do so.

I seemed to recall that roof lights and main beam is a no no....found this on a google search on another site.

Do not wire them to your main beam its now an MOT FAIL we had to cut the wires to the lights on my mates when it was on the ramp as it come on with the main beam

when fitted to the car the have to have there own switch and warning light now.

i just wired all four together then to a switch then to the battery put some kind of fuse in between the battery and swich but can remember what amp , the work fine for me as i only use em when i go lamping

hi
interested in the above and previous link diagrams etc but being very dull on such matters what is the reference "Acc+ve" mean? especially in respect of the reference above that you now need a separate switch for fog lights presumably the 3 position switch would not now be allowed?
Also the numbers 85,87 etc on the relay are theses common marks on a relay? being a nosey b8888r i like to know /understand things.
