I've recently bought a D2 to scratch the 4x4 itch i've had since selling my series 3. When i got it the horns didn't work and the car didn't have cruise control. I've just fitted cruise control and while the light on the dash button does eliminate cruise doesn't work.
Through investigation of the wiring diagrams, i can see that power for cruise control feeds off the 10amp fuse for the horn passing through the horn relay. I have permanent power to the fuse and the fuse is good. I have power to the relay and if i put the coil to ground with a length of wire it energises the coil and the horns will sound. I did some continuity checks for the horn buttons through the rotary coupler and all seems well that end.
From there i removed the engine bay fuse box and checked the purple/orange for continuity to the wiring to the column before it enters the rotary coupler and i'm not getting anything, so it looks like a fault in the wiring from the fuse box plug to the plug before the rotary coupler is at fault.
My question is, where could the break be in the wiring? I would rather not have to run a new wire as i'm concerned with water ingress into the cabin should i go wading or whatever. Does anyone have experience with these looms and possible areas of weakness where it might fail?
