hi there im new to the forum and looking forward to some help:) im goin to wire in 2 55w spotlamps on the back of my landrover defender 90 and its been a while since i did tech studies in school and i was wandering do i need a relay for the wiring as p=iv 110w divided by 12v is about 10 amps so do i need a 10 amp fuse or a 10amp relay as i thought a relay was for controling high votlage circuts using a low voltage and to act as a switch but can i not use a fuse and a switch ?? whats making me confused is that im seeing in alot of wiring diagrams they use relays .

hi thanks for the quick reply so i need a 10amp fuse and a 30 amp relay and im guessing a switch with 4 prongs??

Assuming you can supply the switch (via a fuse) straight from the battery then to the lamps using a cable that can withstand 10A and fit the switch and wiring where you want it, then yes...
Automotive Relays are used to switch high current circuits with a low current trigger circuit not high low voltage, this means you can use smaller switches and control wiring!

so i can just use a switch, fuse, over 10 amp wire and my spots and thats it??or is a relay a must? sorry if im being annoying its just im a bit confused when it comes to wiring :) thanks for the relpy

if i use a single pole switch wont that mean i need two switches for both lights but will i need a four pole switch because the lights have sidelights aswell so 2 poles for the lights 1 for the fuse and positive supply and 1 for ground??

FFS take it to an auto electricians before yu burn ya landy to the ground. double pole swicthes is for controlling live and earth or 2 seperate live supplies yu need a single pole switch to control the supply to the relay not to the lights. both lights are controlled from the relay.

No, you only need to switch from your live feed to both lights (connect them together), then just fasten ground to - well err, ground!

I'm assuming your after worklights fastening them to the back, so why do you want sidelights????
