Hi all Wiring not bad with mechanicals but wiring no chance. what i wana do is fit 4 100watt wipac driving lamps on my rollcage im buildin for my disco td5. ive removed my original fog lamps from my bumper as i have a winch bumper fitted. but i wana use the original landrover fog lamp switch thats at the side of the speedo to operate the lamps up top on the cage any ideas. please as i have no idea but i realry wana do it so i looks neat.

when i say i have no idea i can run wire and stuff like that its just i need some idea of how to get it to run of the switch any ideas??? Dan.

If you still have the fog lamps, butcher one and use the cable from the loom connection to feed your new 40A relay and robert is your mothers long lost nephews father... :D :p

As a new Land Rover owner, can I extend this query? I would like to know what those switches to the left of the dash are for (my 1990 Discovery is a LHD, don't know if that makes a difference). It's a well-driven work horse, so half the stuff probably doesn't work, but the switches are there!

On this bank of four switches, the top left is the rear demist (doesn't work, but the lines in the window are there!) and next to it is the rear fog, which does work. Below are two more with similar fog light-type symbols. Any idea what they are for? I'm guessing maybe front fogs for one of them (hasn't got any, but might find some wires ready under the bumper if it's had some) but can't think of any reason for the other one.

On the right of the dash are more switches that are blank, for optional extras mine never had I suppose. So I presume the ones on the left would have been connected to something as they have symbols on them.

What I want to achieve is a switch for front fogs, and a separate switch for extra roof spots for offroading. (In Finland, you can only have one pair of auxiliary main beam lights, and even they are restricted to 17.5 ref, so I can't just jump them off the full beam switch). Any ideas? Also, are the spare switches that have nothing on them usable?

:drum:

They would be front fogs, if fitted and Heated front screen, again if fitted. Other side, where you have blanks was for radio functions.

Can't see any reason why you couldn't use the blanks, with suitable switches fitted, to run a relay and lights from it.

Have a look here, 400W at 13Volts =30.76Amps
I would myself use the diagram above but only use 2 wires from the switch and two relays.
One for the 2 outside lights and one for the 2 inside lights on the roof rack/rail.
And it's up to you if you want to wire them into the Main beam or dipped with seperate switch or just have them independant of all the lights.

The use of Roof mounted spots is illegal on a public highway and this includes greenlanes. (they're still roads) and therefore must be switched seperately to the cars main lights. You can wire them so that they will only come on when the cars highbeam is on if you want but there must be a switch in the cab to turn them off when on a public road.
