Wiring Help Needed Please

Hello all, i have alot of problems with the wiring in my defender 90 and i have found a few wires in the main loom to be burning out (from ignition to fuse box) will add some pics later.... for now i really need some advice on what size cables to run for:- Alternator & Glow Plugs & Starter Motor. just the bigger cables really at the min. because im now going to be re wiring the loom and engine bay.

Also can anyone please tell me what this part does which i have put a red circle around and any ideas why it would be NOT connected??

What Age and Engine Spec. is your Defender 90 ???

It would also help if you could give the colours of the wires that you want to replace (main colour + trace colour) - this helps to identify their function.
