Are there different sized wiper blades for defenders? My wiper are tiny, like something off an old mini. On the drivers side, they miss a massive screen area that I have to peer around when driving around bends.

Short of sticking my head out of the window, what can I do to improve these - can you put bigger blades on them or do you need to replace the arms as well, or is there something else I can do?

Cheers.

Cheers guys.

Landyfox has pointed out that the wipers should be quite high on the windscreen. Mine are about an inch into the visible area in the bottom. I'm wondering how others measure up :) Distance from visible area from the bottom on inside and length of arms.

Where the thin blade goes into the thick bit that has the spring loaded end on it.

On some types it is sometimes possible to pull the thin blade out a bit. ;) ;)

Sorry - I'm being a bit thick and don't understand this. My wiper blades are 13" long, and the wiper arms are 12" long. My wipers reach to within a few mm from the top of the screen and almost touch the bottom when parked.

Well if they almost touch the top and bottom I don't think you can go any longer without them hitting something?

Well, all that stuff about a picture saying a thousand words, I thought I would upload one so people can see what I'm on about. The position shown here is the furthest that my drivers side wipes. As you can see, there is a large area to the right (from the drivers view) which is not cleared by the wiper.

Wiper is 13", arm is 12".

Hi matey don't mean to disappoint but they look about right. :)

They can't be right! When it's raining I can't see anything even slightly to my right. I can see directly straight ahead and have a good view of the left. On the right, there must be at least 10" of screen not being cleared

Assuming the wiper doesn't drop off the bottom of the screen on the back stroke then it's probably a worn wheel limiting the length of the sweep

Thanks BB. I'll do some reading on that. I've been out to check and the drivers one does actually jerk it's way all across the screen, so no doubt you are right. Also the motor appears to run for a bit without anything happening. The passenger one has been falling off the bottom of the screen for a while.

The wiper is driven on about a 1/3 of the wheel so if it hasn't been done before you can remove the cover on the wheel box, disconnect from the drive and turn the wheel to a good section.

You need to take the top of the dash off to get to it but only the top so it's not too big a job.

For the passenger side if it's sweep is ok you can reset it's position by lifting the wiper arm up fully away from the screen and it will pull straight off the drive splines (might be worth doing the same to the drivers side to get a better sweep until you can get it sorted)

Spook try taking the drivers side arm off the spline and refit it raising it slightly. I had the same problem and this worked for me. Just one or two extra splines made all the difference and after driving around in the rain most of today I appreciated the difference.
