Mine as good as hits the side of the screen (it does travel further when really wet rather than just drizzle)

If the park position is horizontal, suspect the drive cog as mentioned earlier
 
Thanks for the tips guys. I'll try moving them up the spline a bit as a temporary measure to buy me some time until I can do it properly. Do you need to loosen off the grubscrew on the wiper arm where it meets the spline, or can you just pull them off - I can just see what's going to happen next :)

I never noticed how jerky the wipe was before as I tend to only switch them on the move. I always turn them off when stationary.
 
And check the grub screw whilst you're at it, mine were loose as fooook.
And two weekends ago on Salisbury plains the arm fell off the splines. Luckily I managed to recover it and put it back on. :)
 
The grub screws on mine always loosen over time. I have a cable tie from the wiper spring to the spindle to prevent the wipers from ejecting. Happens once on the A1M in the ****ing rain once , fortunate it was the passenger side!
