Was leaving for work this morn started the landy (04 110 XS DCPU) and the wiper stalk was already set to "on". Wipers went about 1/4 way up and stopped, so turned them off.

Thought nothing of it, until I tried to use them and nothing at all. Pulled over and moved by hand, they moved freely about another 1/4 then i felt some resistance, checked the stalk and hey presto they work. However the pass side is now very noisey

Any suggestions on to what happened?

Gonna guess at a wheel box failing. Think you're gonna have to have the dash out to investigate2

Yes, mine did that last year. The flexible cable had tried to jump a tooth on one of the gear wheels and got stuck. Because the wipers jammed part way across the screen, the park switch had kept supplying current to the motor even though I turned them off so it had cooked the motor unfortunately. I bent the tabs on the wheelbox that guide the cable so that it was held a little closer to the gear wheel and it's been fine since.

Hmmm not at all familiar with the wiper system so I'll have to investigate. Though that sounds like my issue!

Though I think changing wiper motors etc... on an XS is going to be a nightmare with the AirCon

No, the aircon doesn't really get in the way. There's just a lot of fiddling about getting the dashboard and fascia apart. The awkward part is getting the wiper spindles out of the bulkhead as there's not enough room between the outer wall of the bulkhead and the inner part of the structure. Fortunately the latter can be gently levered inwards to give enough space to get them out and get them back in again.
