Hi peeps right from the top just about to use my 1986 defender 90 for the first time in about 8 months today i switched on the front wipers to check them they moved about 2"s then stopped i suspect the motor has siezed with sitting for so long but just after a bit of advice on wether or not i may be somthing else o yeah and about 5 mins later after me repeatable trying the wiper there was a bit of a burning smell similar to a electrical fire might just be me being paranoid but as i say thing the wiper motor packedin/burned out a ideas also if it is the motor how much of a B%tch of a job will it be to change????

Sounds like either motor or relay has burned out. Could be because the linkage has siezed up through standing for so long.
Try the relay first (cheapest and easiest) then the motor. Both are easy enough to replace. Motors are frequently for sale on e-bay - I got one for £15.
Free the linkage up and grease it first though. Remove the wiper arms and the motor, then pull the cable out from where it goes into the motor. You may need an assistant to turn the splined wiper shafts while you do this. Once it's out, grease it lightly along its whole length, then re-fit it (again with an assistant turning the splined shafts). Check that it moves freely and that the shafts turn as you move it.

I'm surprised that the fuse didn't blow - check that you've got the right value in there first.
