hi, got a problem with windscreen wipers on my 2004 td5 110 defender- wpers don't park where they should anymore and sometimes briefly stop, could this be just the park switch or something more expensive?. anyone know where thres a pictorial guide to sort this, as I've looked in the Haynes manual and its somewhat confusing.

possibly,,check theres not too much float on the gear shaft its has washers and a circlip you can see it move in/out if theres too much playwhen wipers are on,switch will slide off the motor its secured by a u shape clip

Hi,

Not sure if yours would be the same as its newer than mine but.... there is a splined drum which has got a small Allen key screw in it to clamp it on to the shaft that comes out of the wheel box (STC987) that screw could of come loose or as with mine the splines had worn smooth and I had to replace the wiper arms and splined drum. I could move my wipers easily by hand and could see the shaft wasn't moving. Not saying that this is your problem but worth a look as it's quite a cheap fix if it is.

The odd behaviour of my wipers was most improved by two things. One was replacing the stalk switch on the steering column, and the other was replacing the wiper relay. Well, they call it a relay, but it's more like a control unit, as it has printed circuit boards inside. In late model TD5s it lives behind the instrument cluster. If the park switch doesn't solve the problem that's where I would be looking next.
