Hi folks.
I only seem to have one speed for the front wipers on my 90, and it's either not fast enough or too bleedin fast.. so what can i do to get the thing working with intermittent and fast fast lol.

Any ideas

I'm thinking it will be just a change of switch but inevitably this will lead to having to alter something else so thought best ask the masses :)

switch, relay, poss motor and the associated wiring
its the relay that does the intermittent, and timng, not 100% sure on the fenders if its different switching to the motor for normal and fast, or the relay that does that bit.

i was hoping it would be something imple like changing to a stalk with the right settings and a relay... but the way things go with this 90, it won't be that simple.

or is it folks?

thanks for the input tim

Er, isn't that two speeds?

As others have said, try replacing the relay first (probably cheapest option). The switch shouldn't be the reason unless the contacts are shorting; lastly try swapping the motor.

no, he has 2 speeds, on or off... on is either too slow to be of much use, or not fast enough if its raining hevily (thats how I read it anyway)

I was also presuming that an older 90 (is it a G??) has just on/off wipers, and the intermittend/2 speeds came later

Pretty sure my old stalk (86) had two speeds. I ordered the wrong stalk (again!) and just rewired it.

To upgrade i *think* you need the new stalk (PRC7370), harness (PRC8295) and relay (AMR2341). However, if you use a VW99 relay you can do one better and have adjustable intermittent wipe.

My 90 is B reg, I have the following positions - off, slow, medium or fast. Slow is not intermittent (i.e. there are not gaps between wipes just a slower wipe)

Hope that helps?

Three speeds? Mine is a D reg and down on the switch is one momentary wipe then first position up is normal speed (not intermittent) and the next speed is faster. That's it.

Standard it will be.
Down, one wipe
One up, slow
Two up, fast.

I can't remember the part's you'll need but you need a new switch & a timer relay.
I made up a little wiring loom & just plugged it in.

Ah, I read it as, didnt have & never has.

Id go with new relay then switch if this is the case.

on a 96 down is intermittent, up 1 speed 1, (slow), up 2 is speed 2 (less slow!!)

neither are what I would call a fast wipe, I just put that down to it being a fender!!

Thanks for all this guys.
Just to clarify.. i have down for 1 wipe and 1 up for a continuous wipe that' too fast if light rain and squeaks the screen, or too slow if raining heavy so your struggling to clear it.
Would like to have intermittent, normal and fast as options.
This Cornish rains a bugger ya know.

Some good info in here so thanks everyone.
