Another daft question. When on intermittent the wipers work constantly. When on constant they work normally. when they are turned off they stop where they are and dont return to the bottom of the screen. Is the wiper motor buggered
 
Have a look at the end of the shaft and see if the circlip is still on.
With mine I stripped everything off only to find that the circlip which holds the gear wheel and push bar moved in and out, so it didn't push the little plakky bit down to disconnect the microswitch.
One new circlip and it has worked perfectly for the past 3 years :)
 
The other thing that might benefit from replacing is the wiper relay. People call it a relay, but it's more of a control unit with a printed circuit board inside.I had an all out war with my wipers in the early part of 2014, and replacing this item gave me the most progress in my quest for functional windscreen wipers.

I agree, I had to replace the relay and the park switch to get them to work right. I recommend one of the programmable 99 type ones. I also have a new standard one about somewhere if you want it
