Thanks for the fast response . I was saving for piaa spotlights but there are 8 inch 100 watt wipac lights on ebay for less than £50 new . Thats a yes then?

stop right there...
get the PIAA's there is a set of 80xt's on ebay with LR covers for £100 i think. driving beam 120w bulbs.

aluminium body finned for cooling, slim (80mm) for close fitting. these are fitted to WRC subaru's etc as their additional lighting (mainly low down fogs). If you look up the 80xt's they are £270 for the set, but the LR ones are on special offer. no wires or harness, just the lamps/bulbs/covers. but thats not a problem.

reason for special offer is that LR have just signed a deal for all their aux lights to be made by PIAA.

If you want world class driving lights get the PIAA's. You dont see WRC cars with 8" wipacs on do you?

G

yes, get some but make sure the plastic grilles are on properly, lost one of mine first time out!! i think paddocks sell em for about 40 quid

I'd say yes, i work nights and drive 50 miles through forests and greenlanes in denmark, the first time i turned the main beam on after fitting them i laughed out loud, the difference was amazing...minimises the chances of hitting deer etc..unless they're suicidal and run to the light!!

''If you want world class driving lights get the PIAA's. You dont see WRC cars with 8" wipacs on do you?''

No...but i dont see many landrovers competing in the WRC or driving at 120mph through countrylanes...then again I dont get out much!

:D thats true.

i would buy the wipacs if i thought i was going to smash the front of my landy in the next 12months.

I would buy the PIAA's if i wanted a better light.

how is that?

not knocking the wipacs, they are good. but you can get so much better for a little more £££. depends on your budget i suppose.

i agree piaa's are top class but u cant go wrong with the wipacs for a budget set of lamps with excellent light output, at the end of the day u gets what u pay for and thats a good price on ebay for the piaas, (cibies on me rally car cost 60 each!)

Slimjim, have you also thought about what position you will have them in and what beam pattern you need? as the wipacs are "spots" it kind of narrows your options.

G

Andy i agree. I just think its worth buying the LR special 80xts for 100 quid because the 80xt's will cost a lot more at any other time once stock of the LR has gone.

PIAA 80XT LAMPS

there are some specs and RRPs for you to ponder.

As you can tell, i bought these :D

G

i put the wipacs on cuz i needed a cheap set after busting the previous lamps off road (cibies) if them piaa,s had been that price 12months ago id have gone for them, safe to say that the wipacs are mounted a bit further back now!

True but Im not entering wrc this year:)
Cheers griffdowg Ill search for them they would be just what I was after

no worries. just pointing out that good lamps dont have to be mega expensive (aherm lightforce). I know we are not all rallying around, but you do get the option of fog/drive/spot which will cover many applications wherever you mount them. I see a lot of the aussies with one drive and one flood lamp on the front. gives a good spread of light. thats why most companies sell them individually.

slimjim, whatever lights u get, make sure theyre mounted where theyre not gonna get damaged and use a relay! seen so many melted looms where ppl have wired them straight into the existing circuts! (not just on landys, so called proffesional built rally cars)

No, they will sit between the headlights about 150 mm forward of them on the bullbar and I want them both for road and off road use

Im learning as I go with my landy will do as much as possible myself going well so far but wiring is not for me Id rather pay to do it properly than have all my effort burst into flames
