hi folks I have some brand new winter tyres 205x55x16. Is this size ok to fit ? I have 16" Bridgestones on at the moment. Thanks, Ann

They will probably physically fit, but whether they offer any benefits is doubtful. They are narrower and smaller in circumference than your standard tyre. Google 'visual tyre calculator' to see just how much smaller they are.
This will all affect speedo readings amongst other things, so you need to take that into account too.
Lots of std (215 65 16) tyres are M&S rated anyway, so unless you actually need a full set of new tyres...

Thank you for you reply. I have a full set of these winter tyres brand new, bought for a BMW that was sold before they were fitted. With my Freelander now being 2 wheel drive I thought fitting these might help in the winter.

Might actually make it worse. in 2wd the car is prone to wheelspinning in bad conditions. Going to a smaller diameter wheel (the tyres are smaller in size) will make it easier to wheelspin. Ideally you'd want to go larger diameter for bad weather, so something like a 225/75/16 or a 235/70/16 would be better for bad weather,

Thank you krisboats. I'm new to 4 wheel drive and any hints tips or advice is more than welcome. We might reinstate the propshaft then.
