Hi all, I have been looking for ages for either a wing-top snorkel kit ready to buy, or the piece which allows the snorkel to exit through the top of the wing rather than the side. I can`t for the life of me find one anywhere, but I have definitely seen them fitted to some landrovers!

Also I have a ex-mod 110, used to be a 2.5na diesel. It has been converted to a 200tdi disco engine, but it still has the old 2.5na air filter-is that normal?

Thanks

Out of interest, why do you prefer the wing-top snorkel? I'd get the side cut and increase your options! But you not want this of course.
Not sure if the air filter makes a difference, would have made sense for them to have put a Disco one in, but these are a bit fiddly to squeeze in, maybe the older one was easier!

Somebody told me that it was better to have one that comes out the top of the wing as they can get ripped off the side, not sure it that`s true or not? Ouch!! they are damn expensive :(

Wouldn't be hard to make, I to am looking for one and am on the verge of going to a local engineering firm and getting one made, will get a price

Just had a second look at the link you posted, it seems to include loads of other bits does anyone know what they are? Might be worth the 500 quid price tag depending on what they are

something like this?

Wing top is the way to go, the side entry ones are very vulnerable down tight lanes and the tops are not cheap!

I have had mine for about five years, ( Side mounted snorkel) I regularly go through the forest along paths where only tractors go ( So very narrow and branches scrapping the side of the Defender) I haven't had any problems with the snorkel being knocked off or damaged. Mine is a cheapo from Paddocks, £59. My thinking was if it gets knocked off its cheap to replace.

Yopu need a military one for a NA, look for military wading kits, not cheap though.

I've got a wing top one but I've not got around to fitting it yet.

Without a template it's surprisingly difficult to work out where to cut the wing as the snorkel is not straight and all the angles change as you position it along the windscreen.

I think the way forward may be to take off the wing and make some sort of template.
