Well im new to this site and relatively new to owning a Freelander !!! I bought a XEi last November !! Before you all start, yes ive had to fit a new VCU and ive now got electrical problems with the ABS, TC and HDC !!!
But first thing that im trying to find out is who the B$*&@^D was who smashed my passengerside mirror off !!!
My Freelander is 2000 W reg with electric heated mirrors but they dont fold back. I seen a pair of colour coded electric fold back mirrors and apparently they will fit a 2000 and upwards vehicle - can anyone confirm this for me please !!!!

Hello and welcome

The floding mirrors may be a physical fit but they will NOT fold as this function requires new switch on dash and enabling via landrover testbook computer if memory serves.

Your 3 warning lights - the 3 amigoes - do a search on here its a common one. And yes I've had it - and the fault too!

First, check wires to switch under gear stick rubber gaiter - if its disconnected you get a fault. Then brake light switch is another reason for it appearing - even if your brake lights work. Third to check is abs sensors at each wheel. You'll need a multimeter.

Open bonnet. 1 x tubular white / yellowish connector behind battery, another on the other side near abs brake unit. These pull apart. Measure resistance on the pronged wire section. You should get 2.5ohms i think from memory or there abouts. Basically you should get a low resistance reading. Reconnect.

Slacken rear wheel nuts. Jack up rear and support. remove wheels. You'll find the same abs connectors hidden just under the plastic liner. Pull apart and test as for front.

If all ok then you may have a more serious fault with the modulator itself and you'll need a diagnostic check to flag up the fault codes.

Oh and IF you find the fault being the brake switch or wiring on HDC then the lights WILL go out ONLY when you go for a drive and the system repeats its self check and clears faults.

ABS sensors are a pain to change.....

Hope this helps.....

nice to see the forum up to it's usual standard. 1 post to start the thread then 7 posts of complete bollix afore the poor sod gets a sensible answer.

concur again with rustymark (getting a bit spooky). If after getting no joy checking the abs sensors, might be worth checking the brake pedal switch. god knows why, but it seems to cause this fault (3 amigos)

as for who smashed your mirror off, there are plenty of enlightened souls on here with a unhealthy dislike for freelanders, so could be any of them in an act of wanton destruction. Hmmmnnn, need to check redhands whereabouts on the night in question.......
good luck, welcome.

Its maybe a fact there is nothing on TV so drinking beer and reading RAVE (sort p*rn its not but after 7 or 8 bottles of real ale the beer goggles are on) but I'm understanding how things 'lander are working.

I think Landrover designed it on the motto "if something can go wrong it will" but forgot to add "and it will totally f up your bank balance on the way"

If anyone wants to come and take the steering rack outta mine and change it for a nice new one i'll send postcode!!!

The early non folding type can be replaced with the manually folding later type of mirrors fairly easily. (Just needs one hole in the bodywork drilling out to (IIRC) 13mm.) 10 minute job.

The "powerfold" mirrors are the same fit as the manual fold mirrors but you would need to rig something up to make the poerfold function work.

All Freelander 1 mirrors are electrically heated and adjusted but the powerfold was an optional extra.

Cheers
