Does anyone know where I can obtain a passenger side wing mirror cover from? This is just the plastic casing that fits onto the back of the unit. It appears mine was stolen (mysterioulsy disapeered overnight ). The electric mirror still works fine so I dont want to pay for a whole new unit (quoted £70-£85). But I have had difficulty trying to find anywhere that sells them. Obvioulsy Land Rover only sell the whole unit. -

If anyone has any helpful ideas on where I could locate one, I would be very grateful. I have tried Ebay and Wing Mirror Man.

When I get one I am going to somehow wire them up to the battery so that anyone trying to steal them again will get a nice suprise.

Cheers

Try the following breakers, though they'll probably only sell a whole mirror (should be a lot cheaper). Remember early Freelander mirrors don't fold in & out whilst later ones do. If your going to fit a folding mirror to an earlier car you need to drill a hole, try doing a search on the forum for the proper info.

As regards your electric shock idea, it's a nice thought but illegal, people with epilepsy/pacemakers/weak hearts being adversly affected etc. Ends up the criminals can sue you which aint fair I know, but probably best not to do it.

If you don't fancy the breakear mail order route, I know you said you've checked on ebay, but I agree with Gary - keep looking regularly. One's bound to turn up.

Had the same problem. Had the back off our nearside mirror stolen from Manchester Airport secure parking and then a second time off the replacement mirror when parked outside a friends house overnight. Both times the cover was taken very cleany so it wouldnt be damaged. (Tools needed to do that). First time it happened I asked a mate who spannered at a Landover independant if he could get me just the back and he said matter of fact - "Oh someones nicked it to repair their mirror then". Evidently its quite common.
I trawled ebay for months to get just the back the first time and nothing came up so bought a full unit for £64 off ebay. Did the same the second time but gave in on just finding the backing earlier and bought full mirror again. The back on their own are like hens teeth to find from my experience. Good luck!

Did you get anywhere with this? I had the same thing happen, one night someone took the cover off the drivers side mirror on my girlfriends freelander, she was gutted . I searched and searched and short of going and pinching one off another freelander late one evening the only option was to buy a complete unit new or second hand. I ended up buying her a brand new one for £60 a couple of weeks ago, now today she found that the cover had been taken again, fcukers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So now, I can get another one (hopefully they will do me another one for the same price), but more importantly does anyone know of a way to make it more secure?

I'm tempted to buy two, one to leave on the car overnight while I hide in the bushes with my shotgun (I think the police would sympathise)

would have thought securing it with a bead of silicon would stop idle theft. Use silicon rather than glue, then when you want it to come off, you know it will if you give it enough welly, but the casual robbing scum bastard might move off onto an easier target, or wreck the whole unit depending on your luck. either that or a whole series of tamperproof screws around the perimeter of the backing. haven't had mine off yet to see how feasible it is
