Freelander 1 WINDSCREEN WIPER LINKAGE

Hi all,
The driver side Windscreen Wiper Linkage had just snapped on my 2003 TD4. I"ve taken it off and moved the posiiton of the passenger wiper so as it clears both sides as a temporary fixture.
Anybody know what the Part number is for the Linkage, it"s a length of cheap looking round tube about 8mm wide and approx 8 inches long which simply clips on to the Wiper Motor.

Go onto eBay and search for "Freelander 1 wiper push rod kit". You'll find lots of them with prices from about £30 for the pair.

Thanks Nodge. Have now bought the two linkage rods in a kit for £33 being delivered Friday. Are they easy to fit?

Yes.

The hardest part is getting the scuttle panel off without damaging the press studs. Screw a self tapping screw into the small hole and pull it with some pliers. This will pull the press stud out without causing damage to it.

Once you've removed the wiper wheel boxes from the bulkhead.
Pop the old linkage ball joints off (they won't be tight).
Clean the balls and put a good dab of grease in the new sockets and on the ring end. Press the ring and sockets on to the newly cleaned balls, making sure you fit the rods in the correct place.

Refit the assembly and fit the scuttle. Reset the wiper arms to the X marks on the screen bottom.

Job done.

Hi Nodge
Please can you help me with the above. I ordered the new Wiper Linkage Push Rods but when I was taking it off it broke. That wasn"t a problem becasue I have the new ones to fit but when I took the whole assembly off I found the Driver Spindle was completely jammed and I can"t move it, so I need a new Assembly unit but in the meantime I want to run the car with just the one wiper which sweeps the whole of the screen but I can"t get the new Linkage to push fit on the old assembly. Any ideas?

You can't. The linkage geometry doesn't allow it to work.

Either free the spindle off, or replace it with a second hand one. It's very rare for a FL1 wiper spindle to seize.

Hi Nodge,
As a temporary measure I have moved the Wiper angle on the passenger side Spindle and now it works ok clearing the drivers side adequately plus the passenger side until I can get a newused assembly unit
