I have my 1999 D2 booked in for paint repair to the rusty bits over the windscreen, and have a question about the top seal, which the paint shop need to remove to do their work.

Rave says 'remove and discard' the seal, but http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/removing-top-windscreen-finisher-rubber-d2-146515.html suggests it can be freely removed and replaced.

I've prised it back a bit and the rubber didn't seem to be in bad condition, so I'm hoping it can just be peeled out and popped back!

Is it removable and refit-able or do I need to order up some replacement parts? If I do, what is the part number?

Hi mate them seals are actually just finishing strips and they are normally bonded on when the windscreen is fitted.if you get it off without breaking the glass it will be knackered anyway because there is metal in that trim that bends up on removal.
Tbh I would leave it.

If you heat it with something like a hairdryer you can roll it forward & then insert a piece of plastic tube to hold it off the windscreen frame edge while doing the bodywork.
Remove the pipe when done & reheat the seal & it will revert back to old / correct position.
This worked well on our 2001 td5 - but may depend on hour old the seal rubber is.

Thanks all for the suggestions, and the part number.

In summary, I'll see what the paint shop can do, and be prepared to splash out on a new top seal if it can't be neatly refitted to get a good seal.

I'm hoping the bodywork repairs will also stop the remaining water leak into the driver footwell, fingers crossed- it has to be either the screen or the tailgate, everything else is sealed up now!

I need to do this on mine. Can you let me know how you get on with this? Are you painting the whole roof, or just getting the shop to blend it in..?
