Windscreen mist

Having checked for damp(not) pollen fillters all dry/carpets ok boot all dry. my windscreen keeps misting up from about 15.00 in the afternoons ? is it down to the damp foggy weather/dose anyone else's do this.... i did have a new screen in about 8 months ago but it seems ok? no other window mists just the front screen.At 16.00 today wipped it clean/dry in about ten mins all misty again?

Weeping heater matrix or "O" rings ??
Does it only happen when the engine is running....are you losing any coolant??

Im having exactly the same problem !! like a very fine thin dust that just sticks to the windscreen, and only happens when engine is running and im not loosing coolant :S iv not yet changed pollen filter so that could be filthy... post up if someone finds a solution please !

Check under carpets, boot, anywhere for the on-board swimming pool. Soak it all up with newspapers, towels, sponges, etc.

Why fogging up at 15/1600 hours?

Parked outside, solar heating (sunshine or no sunshine) warms up the car interior and the swimming pool evaporates converting the car into a sauna.

At late afternoon in February UK, the outside temperature drops rapidly and the heavily water laden warm air immediately condenses out on the cold internal surfaces of the windscreen and other glass.

Wipe it off, ten minutes later, more condensation, Seemples!

Walk into a steaming kitchen/bathroom wearing cold spectacles, and you get the idea.

As a work-around, use a dehumidifier to extract all the moisture generated inside the warmed up car, get industrial size water trap bags, or loads of silica gel off ebay, even some cat litters contain silica gel, but eventually gorra plug the water leak wherever that is.

There are logical techniques for finding a leak, one is outlined here, in principal, not for your car, but easily understood and adapted, methinks.

it includes this telling process:

# As a general observation, for two people, one armed with a hose and the other with a torch, working as a team; it's possible to play water gently around all the various external possibilities whilst the spotter inside the car searches for water ingress using the torch.


# All glove boxes and local carpets being removed helps the spotter no-end. Remember to start low down with the hose-play, working higher bit-by-bit, to gain maximum effect from the test process.


If leak location remains a mystery, put dry newspapers under carpets etc, and inspect frequently for staining which will pinpoint the approx point of water entry.

also check that the heating system is set for outside air to come in and not set to recirc as this will mist up your windscreen pretty sharpish.

Misted up windows were an advantage in my younger and more passionate days.......

yer mucky sod,i know what you mean though.they were a great thing when they did mist up though.

could be a small gap in the bond line when they fitted the new windscreen . get them to take a look at it . not enough to let water in but enough to mist up any wind noise when driving

Check the aircon condensate drains, if they are blocked, you get water pooling inside the heater which mists up the screen as it evaporates.

My 'o' rings are fine and so is the heater,all carpets seem dry to the touch,even in the boot were i can feel underneath. it only mists up when shes stood still for 10-20 mins after driving, then only the windscreen mists.... i have noticed i small rattle/vibration noise from where the rearview mirror is?? itmay not be comming from their but its hard to tell when driving,and no sound when standing still.

This would be my suggestion too, I'm having similar misting at the moment, I meant to unblock them over the weekend but didn't.

Where are these drains located as could do with checking mine?

Under the car either side of the gearbox I'm led to believe, got to do mine when it stops bloody snowing.
They are rubber tubes with a flattened end, just squeeze them so the flattened section opens, you will know if there was water trapped as your sleeve will fill up

I use a straightened metal coat hanger to do mine. If you've never done them before you will get wet!!
