Window regulator

The rear window cable on my TD4 appears to be broken. The motor is working. I've seen how you can fix it with a bycicle brake cable. My question is, how easy is it for a non-mechanically minded person with few tools to take out the regulator and fix it?

I could spare 1 hour to do it before the missus starts looking for me :)

You're all mad for buying a new unit, even at reduced cost. :p You must have more money than sense............and there is little money going spare these days :p

Even the kits on ebay are a rip off and a waste of space.

Do a stainless steel cable repair, you'll never look back or have to fix again.

Stripping the door down, plastic membrane and undoing the retaining bolts are the major part of the job, my repair method should take no more than 2 hrs, including tea breaks

What are you doing that it takes 2 hours? There are six bolts including the two holding the glass and another six or so holding the door panel on. 1 hour to remove and replace. Slacken all four bolts on the window mechanism. Remove the right hand side of the mechanism, the one without the motor off first. Pull the top of it to the centre and down over the other and lift it up and out of the opening. Pull the bottom of the right hand side.towards the opposite side and lower it down and then lift up through the opening..
Reverse to install. Four bolts on the motor.
