Will my k series set on fire?

Just started the car (1999 k series)up for the second time after changing the engine. Took her for a quick spin as she seemed to be over revving (5000rpm) all the sensors are ok and no air leaks. took her home and checked the engine and the manifold is red hot!!!!! Any clues. I have changed the back end of the exhaust and the gases are coming out fine, albeit a bit hot. Engine temp is fine aswell.
 
it will not set on fire unless you let the tratter boys near it with petrol and a match.the manifold on any engine gets red hot. hope this helps
 
When you say revving at 5000 rpm, is that your tickover? If so you have a throttle problem, and I think it's fair to say it is not roadworthy.... Don't take this as a dig but are you confident about what you have done/are doing?
 
is your water ok if you have recently filled the system did you take the small tube of the header tank and blow into it to release the valve to let the water in .
 
The throttle cable was never disconnected but has been checked and is correct.
The water system is fully bled, the engine wasnt at running temp by the time I turned it off. I am thinking that maybe the timing is slighty out. I havent checked yet, but if its over revving and the manifold gets that hot could the exhaust valves be opening too early?
 
An engine burns fuel. Burning fuel makes heat, lots of heat. What you are seeing is the net result of the fuel being burned. It's not uncommon for tubular manifolds to glow cherry red after a high rpm run. On a really powerful engine running high rpms, manifolds glow bring orange.
The car won't catch fire and the manifold won't melt. Burning petrol can't melt steel, just warm it up.

You need to get to the bottom of this revving before you throw a rod. The K series wasn't designed to run higher than 3500 rpm off load.
