Ref: Landy 110, 200Tdi, 1992

About to buy one of these fuel shut off valves but need to know the diameter of the main fuel line running from the fuel tank. Does anyone know this for certain?

Also, can anyone recommend the best way to install this shut off valve? I imagine you'd literally cut the pipe using a hacksaw, and quickly insert both ends into the unions. Is that as secure as they'd need to be or would I need to reinforce the connection somehow to prevent the pressure in the pipe blowing the thing apart?
 
The Nylon stuff is 8mm pipe.

If you are going to cut it and then shove the valve on then I would want to make sure I got a good seal, when the pipe is new it can be heated and pushed onto barbs as done at the factory and will make a perfect seal but when it's old it sometimes won't make a good seal.

I'd probably try and get one that has a compression fitting and get two insets and 8mm olives and do it that way.

Other option would be to heat the Nylon pipe a little, force the barbed connection on with a smear of hylomar round it so as it pushes in it seals it.

Legris air products are also fit for fuels - I've spoken to Legris about it.

Troube is he can't unless his vehicle cas been fitted with new fuel lines and they are rubber now.

A jubille on a hard Nylon pipe would not seal well.
 
A lighter will melt

Dipping the end in a mug of hot water is a better alternative:)

Ahh Station, my new forum chum - the bringer of many wise pieces of advice.

Ok, so I should:


  1. Drain fuel tank.
  2. Cut pipe at desired point using sharp hacksaw.
  3. Dip both ends in cup of warm water.
  4. Fix both sleeves over nossles, perhaps with a compression fitting for tighter, more secure fastening.
  5. Refill fuel tank using muslin clothes to filter out any bad particles.
  6. Start ignition and hope for the best.
Once the valve is fitted, do I need to clear the air in the system somehow, before starting the ignition that is? My old Laguna had a manual fuel pump next to the fuel filter. Not sure if the 200Tdi does or not?

Yesterday night I was wiggling the pipe coming from the fuel tank and it seemed to be flexible, so it's probably rubber rather than rigid steel.

Is there just a flow coming from the tank or should I be careful about avoiding the return (if one exists)?
 
If you are careful you can push the nylon pipes onto the valve cold and they make a perfect seal.
Dont worry about diesel leak it will only be a little, dont do it on your block pavers if you have any!
One thing to remember is rigid pipe incl nylon pipe is always quoted as outside diameter and flexi hose is always quoted as inside diameter.
So a 8mm nylon pipe will fit into a 8mm rubber hose, but not the other way around, if you see what i mean

So I shouldn't bother draining the diesel tank before hand, just hacksaw into it and fit the valve?
