got a good deal on a s reg kzj90 land cruiser (swb 3.0 td colorado) about 3 months back. having not had a good truck since selling the defender i was rather happy with it until about 3:30 am sunday morning. On the way back from Watford to Slough a conrod went at speed and the engine proceeded to 'eat' itself... rather a spectacular fail indeed! to repair this i need a new engine... let's just say that it will cost more than the truck is worth for a recon lump... why o why did i ever sell myvanwy?
anyway just wanted to say that i am going to collect another defender this week and i am very very happy about it! never again shall i a slitty drive!

nice

Shame really as i've owned a fair few Jap cars in the past and never had a problem with them, but it seems they're 4x4's or trucks are plagued with issues.
A friend has a Pajero and he's had non stop problems with it, i've owned 2 seperate Mitsi's and had nothing go wrong other than the usual service stuff.

People assume that becuase they're Japanese, they're reliable. They still need maintaining, even when they're older and worth buttons. So, people neglect this and then problems (normally big failures, see above) occur. I had a similar "lemon" once, it was the only car I regret buying.

ive got a 89 fourtrak as our third car... apart from half a gallon of water blowing out in ten miles after topping up its been a cheap reliable get us out of a hole vehicle.... its fine pottering about within five miles of home, or abit further in cold weather when the engine takes longer to get hot, been using it a fair bit the last couple of weeks while im trying to find time to do a front wheel bearing on the disco.

Serves you right for being a traitor. I have a piccy of my landy in Parkhurst forest last week. Instead of the familiar green oval travel companion parked alongside it I had a slitty alongside.:D

You see quite a few during the summer months at pay&play sites and the like. When the weather gets a bit colder, and it gets wetter and the ground slippier, you tend to see much less of them.

The water prob sounds like our ford terrano or is it a Nissan maverick??? Lol but I must say owning from new, no proper oil change (just keep toppin her up) for 50k and 202k on the clock, she's never let us down (yet) lol

the slitty's tend to have the whole expansion header tank thing going on, in my experience when u start getting enough back pressure into the expansion bottle to make it ****, it usually points to imminent HG failure between water channels and exhaust ports.
but what do i know, i spent hours looking after the slitty, changing fluids and generally sorting out the cooling system only for the bottom end to fail in a rather spectacular fashion... bring on the 300tdi i say ;)

had a run of ****ed paejero's and shoguns to look at
12valve v6's blow head gaskets always at back.
diesels suffer rings, turbos, pump seals and if cooked cam caps all at lowish miles.

seriously thinkin of buying an l200 and have read bout all their little issues with the bottom end and also know a lad whose a mitsubishi specialist he tells me get the 2.5 td double cab warrior or 4life stay away from the petrol or the v6 at theyre the ones with the head problems and dont get a 2.5td if its between 02 and 03 as the bottom end bearings will fail if the car has been ****ted on the motorway doing 80plus mph and itll be allright
only want it for work and plg as i specialise in the joinery side of massive barn conversions and historic listed building restoration

just to save meself the embarrasment of constantly being towed out of the mud in the various other vans n cars ive had in the past and figured theyre a little harder built than standard cars so if i can get a 16 yr old escort round the clock twice and a mk 3 transit round 4 1/2 times an l200 should be ok

thing is i pulled the fourtrak out of a nettle patch about 8 years ago... gave the bloke 350 notes for it knowing it blew the water.... put it down the garage for the mot... they changed a brake pipe.... its had a battery , some used tyres , a couple more brake pipes and a couple of exhaust bandages to get through subsequent tests... oh and we did the cam belt and changed the engine oil and filters after the first one... all in all im satisfied with it even though its got an odd coloured ns wing and door cos the po met a skip one day.... its great for threatening to give our teenage offspring a lift where there mates will see them.

disco mot will soon be here, guess id better go get a new roll of mig wire.
