why is it so slow ?????defender 200tdi

can anyone give me any pointers i have a defender 200 tdi and it wont even go above 60mph its standard i have cheked the boost level its at 10 to 11 psi it just seams so slow when you get to 3rd 4th and 5th gear also there is no smoke from the exhaust at all what can you recomend me to check or replace

(p.s my mate has just got one aswell with big tyres etc and there is no way i can keep up please help)

Give it a damn good service and you may, may, reach warp factor 1...i.e 70mph..

Clean out the intercooler and see if that makes a difference

bigger tyres will help but get someone that knows tdi's and get him to tweek the injecter pump up a bit

Mine seemed to be getting slower this week & vibrating a bit under hard acceleration.
There was a fecked rear UJ, so changed that & while it was up on the ramp I changed the gearbox ATF fluid, bunged a bottlefull of Forte Injector Cleaner in the tank & she's pulling like a bastard now, the gearchange is a lot smoother as well but she won't do much more than 70 on the motorway, not that I really care about that as I didn't buy her for speed.

yep, mine was a bit sluggish, but a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank seems to have helped a lot! If you've the time, cleaning the intercooler and the lift pump can only help!!

'Course, we're all missing the obvious answer here to the title of the post........ because it's a Land Rover!!!

why would you wanna go over 60mph in a defender anyway? i was sufficiently ****ed in the head to see what the top speed of my 110 was, it wouldnt go over 95mph (this is a 300tdi) but ****ing hell it was scary. like getting on for the brown trouser level of scaryness

ine siuts fine at 68, 70 is just tooooo noisy , (200tdi 110 with disco transferbox)

its not that i wont to go fast (if i did then i would drive my cossy) but it takes a week to get it up to 60mph i gave it a full service to day all filters and oils cleaned out intercooler but with no joy also done the cam belt aswell to check pump timing ive had it with this landy my mates one is so nice to drive but mine is like driving a 850cc mini with 4 tone of sand init i dont know what to do now any help in the right direction ????

We have cured one like this today in another thread have a quick look around

ive looked through loads of threads i cant find it ive done various searches aswell

have you changed the fuel filter?
