hi all

My disco is a '98my 300 manual with dds and no spider, egr removed

All the time I've had it there is a time delay when I turn the key to the start position, sometimes a split second but maybe 1/10 times well over a second, it's rare the starter kicks in instantly...does anyone have any advice on this please

Also, after it rains fairly heavily the interior light flashes almost at a timed rate instead of just staying on, it's very odd but I just put it down to land rovers not being the most watertight thing ever made...but any advice gratefully recieved

Many thanks in advance

Towsey

I'd guess starter solenoid and poor earths .. somewhere!!

1. More like an iffy starter solenoid or a ‘sluggish’ starter relay or starter interlock relays depending on the spec of disco that is.
2. There’s an old thread in the system some where on the flashing interior lights, it was fixed by replacing the multifunction unit, although I don’t believe it’s was rain related if I remember correctly.

Cheers for that

It's a t reg safari, I think it's a gs, well it is on paperwork anyway. i think it has everthing except electric leather, rear air con, cruise and abs, if any of that tells you what you need to know.

Suppose I could try running a temporary trigger wire straight from the battery to the cab to some sort of switch then to the starter to rule out relays etc and would that not just narrow it down to the starter

Il have a look for that thread but I never seem to have a lot of success 'searching'

Thanks again

NAS and Japanese spec vehicle have the inter locks, so if your isn’t one then don’t worry.
It’s a red-white wire from the ignition switch which plugs in the upper right side of fuse board, this is the wire that goes to the starter solenoid, so if you ignition switch is functioning correctly and there’s continuity to the solenoid terminal proving the relay is ok then the fault is possibly with the solenoid.

If you wish to identify the plug at the fuse board, then with out having a look to refresh my memory, the colours of the other two wires in the plug at the fuse board from the ignition switch are a white and a yellow, so that’s three wires one for each of the three positions of the switch.

Brilliant cheers for that, your a rite fountain of knowledge haha. Il be having a look at all that, but it will have to cool down first, this weather here is no good for shade bathers
