It would be great if all peeps came back with results of the fix regardless if they did it themselves or went to a garage. Problem is many don't. They only pop in when they want something. Some never to return again as not many keep the same vehicle for a long time. There's quite a following of LR products online due to the heritage and peeps generally want one but can only own it if they fix it themselves. Some do use main dealers. I do if I need to. Not all independents have the diagnostic kit or knowledge if yer really stuck. Yer pay a fixed price one hour diagnostic then take the vehicle away after if yer dun't want them to do the work. It will be none intrusive - they won't start taking the engine apart etc. I'm lucky as I've been playing with Freelanders for too long and have diagnostics of my own so I can solve most problems or at least work out wot needs done. Same for other vehicles if I see someone on ere needing diagnostics if I'm travelling past their location.
Every so often I look over old freds to remind peeps to update us on wot happened next, be it the suggested fix worked, the garage solved it or it took a few more fixes before the fault was solved. There are some who see us as a last chance. If we can't help them fix it on the cheap then they take it oft the road and get something else.
The forum is a great place to be. It's changed quite a bit over the years. There's less peeps who post up "how to" guides than before. Not so many of the original generation about as they have moved on to other vehicles. The forum benefits from peeps adding to it. So it's up to us as members to make it better. Unfortunately we can't force peeps to come back with an update. Some do some don't.
