Why do cars not run on LPG when cold?

A general LPG query I guess, but why can my car (and I assume all LPG-converted cars) only run on LPG when warmed up?

Mine always starts on petrol and in the summer it immediately flicks to gas, pretty much the moment I pull out the drive.

However, when it's cold I have to override it to stay on petrol until the engine is warm, and then flick it over - and even then sometimes there's no power, as if the LPG isn't flowing, and I have to quickly flick back to petrol and try again a minute or so down the road.

Is it something to do with the octane rating of LPG being higher than petrol, or completely unrelated?

Thanks! :)

you aint got a cold start fuel increase like the efi system, liquid needs heat to change to gas ,mixture will be leaner when cold ,vapouriser can freeze quickly without heat circulated by coolant system

Mine is an EFi James - 1994 V8? Or do you mean I only have the cold start fuel increase in petrol, not LPG?

So the coolant system runs through the vapouriser that turns the LPG from a liquid back into a gas, but can only do this when there's enough hear in the cooling system to warm the vapouriser? It hasn't been that cold recently, but cold enough I guess.

So is the stuff in the tank in liquid form, or kep pressurised as a gas?

yes efi has fuel increase for cold running like old choke it uses a temp sensor for this, lpg is liquid vapouriser allows it to turn to gas as pressure is released
