Why did you buy a disco!!

when i saw it first, it was the wierdest car i have ever seen...but i needed a 4x4 car and i got it, but in a short time...i started to love it and do more each day. :crazy:

Well, had a 2a, two 3s, a P38 DSE (which was DREADFUL!), two Freelanders, and on third Disco (two 300Tdi, one V8). Just about to buy another one . . . .

I suppose that would tend to point towards some kind of awful addiction, really.

Ah yes but your slowly progressing towards decent landies. the experience can only get better.




Well after series, P38's and gaylanders. It can't get any worst can it..

A lot of car with good pulling capacity, generally will go anywhere all for a decent price, then a hedge fund for spares, lol

Because I can not afford a Defender 90.

I had only ever owned small hatchbacks like the Vauxhall Nova, Astra, Corsa.

Then my dad got himself a 1998 Series 1 V8 Disco, he let me drive it once and from that moment I fell in love with it, it is very comfortable, doesnt get stuck in snow or flood water, it has tons and tons of space, its everything you could want in a car. I helped him as much as I could fixing little problems, servicing, fixing bigger problems and so on.

So when he come to sell it I was over the moon when he offered it to me first. I sold my little Corsa and gave him £1400, that was five years ago.

Over the years me and my dad with my microscopic budget have fixed most of the problems and kept it running, it has never broken down, always got me home and I absolutly love it.

Coz I cudn't afford a 110csw.

To be honest, the most reliable of the lot was the first Freelander, with the Rover diesel engine in it. Bought it second-hand, had it 3 years, never missed a beat, sold it to a mate who had it 4 years and it never missed a beat. Still chugging along, as far as I`m aware.

Worst by quite a margin was the P38. Even worse than my 1971 Vauxhall Viva.

First Disco I ever drove was my brother in law's TDi (G reg ) and was to pull a caravan to France
Once I got started the thought was going through my head "Why stop in France - this thing will go anywhere"
Just loved them ever since

the generic answer to this would be along the lines of;
i couldn't afford a decent defender.

because it looked rust free but hey its a disco it had holes in it when it left the factory :wtf: and i like the sea sick feeling they give you when driving in a straight line:hysterically_laughi

drove my old mans 300tdi like it bought a td5 love it. my father has the d3 drove it the other week and want one han one for 2 weeks as a courisy car loved it the only thing i did not like was no feed back when towing

i bought one purely as my budget didnt stretch to a 300tdi defender i shall own one at some point just cannot justify the price currently.

My wife bought it for me ))

I missed having a 4x4 and my mate was selling his discovery about the same time my mundano needed a new DMF and clutch so was cheaper to buy the disco than repair the car.

It was cheap an the only other thing about for the money was a gaylander!
