Why did you buy a Defender

I bought my 110 so that when people laughed at me for driving my girlfriend's Yaris I could say 'My other vehicle is a defender'

But seriously - I wanted to learn more about maintaining vehicles and to transport equipment to events in muddy fields, oh and maybe a bit of greenlaning.

I brought my Defender as I have endless quantities of time and money that I need to throw in a bottomless pit....... :suspicious:

Seriosly, I had one as my first car which was promptly nicked, wanted one ever since to do up and alter. And was lucky enough to be able to treat myself two years ago, have been working on it since.

well, we have dogs, so needed a 'dog transporter', have always always always wanted one (living another dream after moving from london to the country) and living at the bottom of a very steep hill (and having to take 10 days leave in the past 2 years cos of snow) thought it was the best way to get me out to work - although, now i wonder if having the days off work might be better!!!!!! the neighbours have also booked rides when it snows - i might charge!!!! i love it - never loved a vehicle more....perfect!

I had a Land rover because my love of austin minis and the history behind them Because thats where land rover came from the merger of BMC and BL Austin ant was squashed and they took the ideas and turned it into the MK1 more of less.

So thats what I like The defender pulls my minis, My missus loves it, dog loves it, And i can go anywhere anytime i want. thats if this new ones finished having warranty work on it :(

I got my 1990 defender /110 SW a few years ago, it was just part of an ongoing love of large, noisey, go anywhere vehicles which I have owned over many years ( including a 31 ft coach / camper /living vehicle / and various jap 4x4. Which were very nice but not the same )led me to find my lovely 110/defender. Now its just an ongoing addiction to keep sorting bits out and learn how to fix it as it goes wrong. Just need to find someone in Southampton area to teach me how to weld.. I love the fact that I can work on them and find other owners helpful and friendly.

We got snowed in twice in the last 2 years - our only 4 wheeled vehicle was a company transit van and it was proving to be a big big for the cornish lanes. We wanted a 4 x 4 that could take the dogs and the lanes no problem and the Defender cam up trumps - also OH is a bit of a project man so the Landy fits that bill too!

Had to get a 110 as the interior of my car was getting trashed by the other hobbies. And not really any better on fuel so thought might as well get a black hole to pour my money into and get a huge grin at the same time.
Has now become one of my hobbies to :D
Was also bullied by my partner in to it who love's it when we go green laning so it's a win win all round.

Can't understand the comments where they say Defenders are a big black hole to pour money into? Parts are very cheap, most jobs you can do yourself and it appears what ever you do to a Defender you get your money back when you come to sell it. I had to change the speedo on mine. Cost £80 including the shipping and took me all of 10 minutes to do. Had to change the speedo on my Senic two/ three years ago, Cost £1600 and had to go to the Renault agent to get it done. To my mind Defenders are cheap to run, that's one of the reasons I keep mine. Maybe I'm just lucky with mine?

I've been lucky to but the fuel tank has a hole in it that leads to the engine:D
