Why did I look underneath?

So I've been away and haven't had good look underneath the old girl for a few months now. She's currently being baby sat by my old man.

Go home, get underneath only to find that the breather plug on the front axel has fallen out, the middle section of the exhaust has snapped off the silencer box, the front dif pinion seal is leaking and one of the swivel housing seals is leaking.

Ignorance is bliss.

Think of it this way... Once the breather plug is back in its rightful place, the exhaust is replaced, the front dif pinion seal is replaced and the swivel housing seals attended to then you will look under your Land-Rover and come back here and post:

I know what you mean, Im mechanically savvy, keep an eye on my cars and keep them working well with regular maintenance. But how do people who have no idea, interest or care, manage to keep their cars going? Is it just luck, ignorance or a huge bill come MOT time?
